Wife Repellent Cream

My bride has been mostly supportive of my journey in search of Wet Shaving nirvana.

She has tolerated the spending. She has reluctantly agreed to let me put some of my "Shaving Junk" out in plain sight in the bathroom. She has admitted that there might be something to the whole Wet Shaving thing, as my face looks and feels better to her.

She has enjoyed or put up with the colognes and after shaves, with her reactions ranging from fairly enthusiastic (Old Spice, Bay Rum) to tepidly tolerant (Aqua Velva, Florida Water) and she even likes Lilac Vegetal

The only time she has ever put her foot down and said "No Way, none, not at all" was to the Tom's of Maine Mint cream!

She claims that it stinks up the whole house and that scent of stale chocolate chip mint ice cream that sticks to me after using it will lead to Lucy and Ricky sleeping arrangements.

Anyone else had a shaving cream nixed because of the scent?

Most of B&B would die to have a wife like yours. At least the cream is no longer made, so it is kind of easy to not use it.

Yes, she's a keeper...she's also a great shot with a pistol, so I can't leave anyway.

When the Tom's of Maine went on clearance for a couple bucks a tube at Grocery Outlet, I stocked up...mostly on Calendula, but I also picked up quite a few Mint.

my girlfriend likes most of my stuff. when shes over and i go to shave I let her pick what im going to use, that way the place smells good to her

I've always wetshaved but until recently used canned goo.
My wife loves aftershaves and colognes and I already had an assortment.
She is also tolerant and kind of amused by my new interest in soaps and creams and my growing collection of razors and brushes.

She's not the type to flat out say she hates something although she thinks a lot of the newer colognes smell like fruit and candy. The most critical statement she ever made was about Williams. She said it smelled like those bars of laundry soap that her mother used to use.

It took me a while to remember this one, but my wife's reactions are very sincere, and she doesn't hold them back. The only one that she really didn't like right out of the box was Acqua Di Parma. I gave it a whirl for a few days and then realized it had a fragrance similar to rotting fruit, and that's why I had this unusual urge to gag, and feel nauseated every time I used it. Good thing it's got a pretty good reputation, and is always easy to sell if the price is right.

for me it's been stuff like Tabac, JM Fraser's, MB Dragon's Blood and Williams that the missus found objectionable. she's allergic to strong fragrances which is why she can't wear perfume. although, she does like my Proraso, Maca Root and Conks soaps. I might also add that aftershaves and/or colognes are off limits, but this is me personally and nothing to do with the wife.

My Wife's responses:

AOS Sandalwood SC, "Ooh it smells like shaving in here...that smells good!"
Aqua Velva, "Did somebody spray something? Babe what is that?...It smells like bug spray or something"
Floid Blue AS, "Wow that smells like a hair spray I used back in the 90's"

T&H 1805. This surprised me because I thought it was an amazingly pleasant scent and fairly mild at that.

That was my only cream (traded it out for D.R.Harris soap). She so far has made absolutely no mention of any of the soaps I've used:
  • Prairie Creations Almond (OK, but a bit strong for me. The soap's so good I use it anyway!)
  • MWF
  • Cella
  • Tabac
  • D.R.Harris Arlington (I don't like this one)
  • Burma Shave
  • Williams

I guess any of the strong menthol one's probably remind women of vicks so unless she's a nurse, she's probably not going to fall in love with it. That being said, I haven't had any strong complaints about anything I've used recently.
