Wich is better, Arlington After Shave or 4711?

Hi!

Some time ago I bought a pot of Arlington shaving cream and I like it much for this summer. Now I'm looking for an after shave with a strong, similar scent, and at first I thought in buying the same range after shave splash, but I have read that 4711 after shave (a lot cheaper) have a similar scent.

So, what do you think about both after shaves? It's Arlington splash worth the extra price comparing 4711? Which has a better, long-lasting scent?

Cheers!

on this topic, how's the arlington cologne? i really like the scent of arlington soap, it reminds me or orange sherbet in a way. i think i want the cologne if it has excellent staying power and a similar scent to the soap.

Ok, I'll do an economical effort to buy Arlington after shave lotion then.

Thanks for your advices, mates!

Arlington doesn't really have much staying power either, but it's intended to be subtle. 4711 is gone as soon as it dries, though. Arlington AS is one of my favorites, so this is a no-brainer recommendation for me.

The cologne, while complementary, is not the same scent as the soap or the AS. I found the cologne to be a bit too "candy-like" for me, although I do love the soap and the splash. If on the odd occasion I want to put a cologne on following an Arlington shave, English Fern is perfect.

got some 4711 today from IB and must say, it does remind me a lot of Arlington.

i used it mid day as a refresher to give my some scent, and it was very pleasant.

Arlington is worth the extra money IMO. I agree that the cologne is a bit sweeter.... like a lemon drop. Acqua di Parma is the ideal cologne to pair with Arlington Soap and AS. But that's even more money . Personally, I have sampled AdP Colonia, AdP Intensa, and AdP Assoluta (colognes).... I ended up buying a bottle of Intensa cologne. Arlington AS splash leaves your skin soft and smooth and the scent is great.... you can't lose with it as an AS splash. I have 4711.... but I don't reach for it.... I reach for AdP or Arlington instead.

Not to throw this in another direction but I think the Alt-Insbrook kinda smells like a mix between 4711 and Arlington. Might just be my nose though.

Arlington's scent lasts longer than 4711 for me, but both are very nice. I however did not replace my bottle of 4711 when it was finished and plan to replace Arlington when it is all used up.

Never thought of this, but I have to agree that it does smell like a combo.

Not to travel to far off topic... Has anyone tried Old Spice Smooth Blast and how does it compare to Arlington or 4711?

Where I live and work people are discouraged from wearing any strong scents. I prefer a scent that is nice - but mild not long lasting. I have a puck of Arlington soap and love the smell. But I use 4711 AS afterwards. It is a very similar scent (to me at least) and lasts as long as I want a scent to last. Of course the fact that I got a bottle for less than $5 including shipping made the choice pretty easy for me.

I've started using my 4711 as an actual AS Splash lately and am not impressed with the couple days I have used it.

I just finished a bottle of Floid Suave that really seemed to have some skin care qualities, a little burn, left my face feeling great all day and right after I used it, my skin always felt silky smooth. So needless to day, I had the same expectaions for the 4711.

Aside from a nice scent out of the bottle and nice presentation (bottle and lid etc), the 4711 seems to lack in anything else. Scent is gone by the time I brush my teeth (which I knew), but the burn is beyond any other splash I have used and my skin does not feel like it is moisturized at all. I'm having good shaves, but the splash seems like it's either straight alcohol or a different quality of alcohol being used.

I'll give it a few more days, before it hit's the trash can. Maybe I can reuse the bottle for something or use the splash as I was in the past, as a mid-day pick me up.

It's unfair to compare a dedicated aftershave to a cologne splash.
