Why does everything have to have a scent?

This may turn into a bit of a rant, this is something that kinda bothers me but there is a solution to.

So,..... why does everything from shampoo, to dryer sheets, to deodorant, to hand lotion have to have a scent?

It honestly wouldn't be so bad if you could purchase items that at least have the same fragrance. ( Gain,Axe,old spice) but I find most things never smell the same.
Like why do I want to shower with one scent of body wash, then get out, shave with a soap that smells like aloe and green tea, use an after shave that has a different scent, and then a deodorant and a cologne that all smell different?........... I just don't get it.

But like I said there are ways to get around this like unscented products or using something like axe I suppose ( Never used it in my life! Way to pricey for just buying hype)
Anyone else find this a pain in the butt when their shopping for things?

The scent is the best thing about wet shaving IMHO. Yes, you can get unscented shave cream if you like. You can also go to http://gentlemensbest.com/default.aspx and get their Signature Series Scent is shave soap, bath soap, deoderant, aftershave and cologne. so everything will match and you'll smell like a class act.

I'm not complain about the scent itself, I love the smell of the soap I have it definitely is the best part of shaving by far! it's just the complete difference in scent that bothers me. I'll have to look into that sig series so that everything smells the same! Thanks for the link =)

yeah but scents from bath soaps, shampoos, and shave soaps don't last more than 2 minutes. only a good cologne lasts.

(snip) unscented soaps are out there too---

+1 to both of these sentiments.

Also part of the fun to me is finding different combinations of soap / cream and After Shave that work well together, either in their similarities or in their striking differences.

I'm a bit in a minority here on that subject, myself. It's obvious that for many people around here, the scents are the best thing.

Personally, my standard is that I don't want any "fragrance" that I'm going to notice after I rinse my face off. My favorite scent for just about anything is "unscented", and luckily, there are such products out there. But I can tolerate even the dubious aroma of, say, Musgo cream, as I know that it won't last, and the cream itself works fine.

Again, though, I think you'll find that's a minority opinion around here.:001_rolle

I too am starting to appreciate the unscented cream/soap experience, finding I gravitate to unscented cream/soap about 50% of the time.

I agree wholeheartedly. It's why I don't wear aftershave or anything like that. I hate strong scents or perfumes. They make me feel sick.

This.

Example. This morning I used T&H West Indian Limes soap for my shower. I used Provence Sante Green Tea shaving soap for my shave, and used Saint Charles Shave Extract of Limes aftershave milk.

By the time I shaved, the WIL smell was pretty much gone. By the time I put on my aftershave, the Green Tea smell was pretty much gone. By the time I put on my cologne, the aftershave smell was pretty much gone.

I enjoyed each and every one of the scents, and none of them interfered with my cologne. I don't see the problem.
