Why are there so many homies?

I'm noticing there's a lot of fragrances that are "Pour Homme" ... for men.

You'd think it'd be enough to market a cologne as "Masculine" or just towards men. I don't think most people have figured out that PH is Latin or something (Italian?), much less what it means.

Kenzo L'Eau Par Kenzo Pour Homme?

Kenzo the water by Kenzo for homies... (just a guess).

If you use any French in your product name, you get to mark it up by 50%. It the product is actually French, you get to mark it up another 75%.

And if you market yourself in a particular way, you'll get people to BUY that "FROG JUICE" and DUMP IT DOWN THE DRAIN!

I never understood why people buy stuff to throw it away... Or when they get so mad they set THEIR OWN STUFF on fire.

C'est la Vie...

Yes but why the naming scheme?

Probably a few reasons.

- Many of the cologne houses make juice for men and women. Their first fragrance might simply be called Chanel. So when they make a masculine version, they make it Chanel Pour Homme.

- Somtimes they launch a feminine fragrance with a specific name like Yves St Laurent "Opium." They do a male version and they call it "Opium Pour Homme."

- Sometimes they just use Pour Homme because fragrances can be daunting and confusing for a lot of men and Pour Homme at least lets them know it is made "for men."

They use "Pour Homme" instead of "For Men" since probably 90% of perfumers and perfume houses are French.

The same reason they call it escargot and not snails

It just sounds classier.

No one pays cash money for a plate of snails.

Come on folks . . . let's face the truth. Some men need the assurance that the thing they are applying will not make them smell female . .

Wait wait wait..you guys are saying "Homme" is men?! I've been wearing stuff that says "Pour Femme" for years. I've been having mixed results though as usually the ladies just kinda giggle when I walk by and it's the guys that turn their heads.

Indeed...

"Pour Homme" not just for French cachet, but for old-school French cachet. The established (older) frag houses all seem to have had a "Pour Homme" offering back in the day.

If you're a new startup and want to sound like some upscale company that has been around for a hundred years, just add "Pour Homme".

It's all about the marketing.
