What's new

Who to read now?

I'm looking for recommendations guys. I am a huge fan of Tom Clancy and Vince Flynn's works. I've read everything by both and everything by W.E.B. Griffin. I am a voracious reader and read most anything I can get my hands on, from Anne Rice to Ann McCaffery, James Patterson to James Clavell. But who would you recommend to succeed these two? They can't be replaced, only followed.

You know, I've never read anything by Ludlum. I've watched the Bourne movies, but never read any of his works. Nor Ted Bell. After googling them they look promising.

I would recommend Michael Connelly, too. I would not stop with Blood Work as the only example of his work. His stuff is not going to have the international intrigue or political aspects. I like Connelly more than Clancy. Deeper and better prose. If you like the politics, how about LeCarre or similar? Slower going, I suppose.

I guess I would recommend trying Ludlum, too. Not quite the same as Clancy to me, but some similarities.

For mysteries, I am liking the Scandinavian writers, but the subject matter is pretty far from Clancy's.

Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child write a heck of an action sequence, as Clancy did.

The Jack Reacher series by Lee Child is more cartoonish than Clancy, but might appeal. It does to me.

Stephen Coonts
Dale Brown
Jack Higgins
Larry Bond
Harold Coyle

I haven't read any of these authors extensively... first two ot three by Coonts were good. Read one by Brown which was OK. I'm fairly sure Bond contributed to Red Storm Rising... if you liked that one he writes similar books.

Stieg Larsson (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stieg_Larsson)

He wrote the Millenium Series (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Millennium_series):

I found the films quite impressive and have been lucky enough to find the books second hand for very fair prices.

I should have said earlier, virtually any of the Scandanavian mystery writers, for instance, Jo Nesbo, Henning Mankell, Jussi Adler Olsen. Perhaps least Stieg Larsson, to me, but still good. These are police detective mysteries, so not exactly Tom Clancy-like.

My top two artists are Tom Clancy and Michael Crichton. Chris Kyle is more of a story teller than a literary genius (please don't read this as an insult, it's not) This book was a great read, and I highly recommend it.

Great recommendations above!

You can always go backwards in time for some reads. Have you read Frederick Forsyth or A.J. Quinnell? Some of their stuff may be out of print, so some scouring might be necessary.
