It wasn't me, but I was hoping it was going to be. I saw it listed with no option for buy-it-now/best offer option and asked the seller to consider adding one. I heard back that the executive was in great shape, but no answer on the BIN. I checked back 10 minutes later and it was gone at $40. So, not me.

I didn't even know you could do that, sneak in an offer that is. I guess when all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

Well, you can, but it is technically verboten. And now that I think of it, I haven't actually made an off-the-books offer on a listed item, but have texted sellers and asked if they had more unlisted items. I scored a bunch of blades from a seller that had put up one lot on eBay, I pm'ed them and asked them if they had more. I offered to buy the unlisted ones in one bulk lot. They agreed.

I thought sellers could add a buy-it-now/best offer option at any time during the listing of the auction AS LONG AS there are not yet any bids. If there are bids, then they can't add one and aren't supposed to take it down and relist it with a BIN option or try to sell it apart from official eBay channels. But adding a BIN/BO option before any bids are placed is considered acceptable on eBay's terms. At least, that is my understanding of eBay policy.

When I was still hoping that one of the members here picked it up, I was only mildly disappointed. Now it is just frustrating. Grrr.... Worst of all, now that I've seen one and almost snagged one, I want one. This is not good. Maybe someday ...
