What's new

Who introduced you to wet shaving?

This past December, I read this blog post and never looked back. What got me hooked originally in the post was the amount of money I would be saving (theoretically anyway!) and the funny comment about the sole purpose of the badger :)

well in the long run I will save money. I only stock 3 soaps in my rotation. have only 1 brush but building another.
but to answer, my brother got me into it with a free starter kit, razor and brush .
I made two brushes which I PIF'd at work and created two new monsters of shaving who are now obsessed. They don't even talk to me about sports anymore. lol

myself after I bought a bunch of DE blades for a hobby of mine (free-flight airplanes), I wondered what it would be like to try shaving with them. and things progressed from there.

Cigar Asylum introduced me to it. There was a conversation over there, I did some further digging on the internet, came over here, and now I'm broke.

I stumbled upon a youtube video a few years ago, can't find that said video anymore. And the gentleman had some Merkur Razor. And he said, "be careful to not tap it against the side of your sink, because this is German made, and might break your sink." That was funny. And then a couple of months ago, I got a job, and getting money and stumbled upon some shaving stuff on amazon and decided that I want to try it out. Ordered everything first, and then found Badger and Blade. However, I'm happy with my purchases. Maybe would have gone for another razor, but oh well, my Old Man loves my original 180 long handle

Nostalgia to be gentleman and to the ancestors of memory of my family. The fought during WWI, WWII and several other KIC and internal uprisings. Never complained, always dressed in suits with silk handkerchief. Nostalgia ...

Myself, i kept seeing the blue wilkinsons shaving bowl and cheap brush....i decided to get it and here i am, alot of stuff later :D

Not sure if I remember. It was about 3 years ago - probably from an article I read about shaving somewhere. If its my normal MO, I probably did some internet research (cruising an idea on the internet + Amazon + money in the bank account = bad idea). Pretty sure that Mantic and GeoFat Boy and B&B, in that progression, had something to do with it. Still had money in the account after Mantic and GeoFat Boy but the quickly changed after B&B. Saving money? That's just the lip service to get you past the SWMBO (for a while...I've worn that out long ago - better to have shipments from Lee's, WCS delivered to the office than via UPS even if free shipping from Amazon - can't take the bitching I get when the UPS truck shows up-). Thank God for separate bathrooms. If she looked in my cabinet, I'd be dead.

Now I'm looking for some covering fire from you guys on how I make the "saving money argument" to SWMBO since my next great adventure involves getting back into golf this year. Makes DE look like child's play. Maybe I'll start another thread...or a support group.

My wife. I mentioned to her a couple of times that I wanted to try the "soap and brush stuff". She set me up with an AoS Sandlewood starter kit plus a Napa Soap Co. mug, soap, and boar brush this past Christmas, and I've been wet shaving ever since. I started with my Fusion ProGlide vibrate-o-matic for a couple of weeks but got a DE (mostly thanks to B&B) and haven't looked back.

SWMBO now realizes that she has unleashed an obsession...

Some thread on reddit.com - probably about saving money. From there i found reddit.com/r/wicked_edge and was intrigued. Shaving could be cheap AND enjoyable? Whoa! I was unemployed at the time, so I couldn't afford the start-up costs, but not long after I got a job, and about 9 months ago I started ordering stuff from ebay and amazon. Haven't looked back since. I've spent quite a bit so far on shaving supplies, but now I have everything I need to get great shaves for several years to come. Time to start the gentlemanly restraint challenge! (I just have to order a big bottle of GFT skin food first)

See dilemma outlined above. My defense now is based on her need for Chanel cosmetics. we're even.

My GF. She pulled me into AOS at a mall in Chicago about two years ago. I tossed the can goo and cartridge blades in the trash a week later.

For years I was trying to find a more comfortable shave. I was on a slow path that took me to Anthony shaving products which I first saw in about 2001 or so at Bath and Body. It progressed from there. After awhile I was using decent brushless cremes and what not and still wanted to get a more comfortable shave. I was also getting irritated with how much the multiblade carts cost. I knew about DE shaving and one day just looked it up. 'Vintage Shaving'...found a few articles...found B&B and took the plunge shortly after.

That was about 18 months ago.

Saw a post on another forum and was intrigued. I picked up a VDH brush soap stand set on Amazon then a DE razor at a local antique mall. Then an order from West Coast Shaving another antique mall razor...

Long story short, I haven't saved a dime. I've spent more on shaving goodies than if I'd kept my M3 and canned goo but this stuff is more fun. I'm giving my goo and carts away this weekend. :001_cool:
