Which Rooney?

Hello gentlemen. I bought a 3/1 in super last year and am possibly looking at another Rooney. I don't want to spend more than $100 and the brush has to perform well with creams and soaps. I generally lather in a bowl. Is the 1/2 the way to go? What grade of hair do you recommend? Or is there another brush that fits the bill? I already have an EJ BBB, SR3120, SR3824, Shavemac finest, Zenith best badger and an Omega boar.

Thanks for you help

I've got a 3/2 Rooney in Super and I love it. It is great for creams and very good for soaps IMO. Prices are a little above the $100 you mentioned. I found them online for $110.

This brush is super soft but has enough backbone for soap. I also think the handle is both beautiful and ergonomic.

You have a nice selection of brushes. The 1/2 or 3/2 are exellent all-around brushes. The 3/2 has longer loft while the 1/2 has a larger knot. I actually prefer the 1/2. Another option might be to wait (if at all possible :crying:) and save up for a Rooney Heritage series, such as an Emillion or two-band Simpson.

I have a 1/1 and a 2/1 and the 2/1 is the best all-around brush I have ever had. I will probably snag a 1/2 at some point strictly to grind up soaps but the 2/1 is a great brush for soaps and creams. And it looks tight in the faux-horn.

I have a 3/1 Super in Coral I got a few months back and have been very happy until . . .

I recently acquired a limited Heritage Stubby 2 in finest on BST and have been using it for the 2 weeks - I love it! Around the same time I got a 1/2 Finest from Jim at Vintage Blades and have been alternating. Both equally devour soaps and creams and the size just seems made for my face. I have been leaning towards the Stubby, though. If you see one of the limited runs on BST snatch it up! But I'd say you can't go wrong with either.

. . . now I'm happier!

What grade of hair is the 2/1?

BTW thanks for your suggestions all.

the 3/1 is an excellent brush. i 1/2 or 3/2 or 2/1 is going to be pretty similar to what you already have. the 3/1 is a great all-round brush and i don't think you need any other rooney supers.

if i were you, i'd be happy with the selection i currently have. if you want something similar to what you already have, by all means get another rooney super. if you want something different, you'll have to save a little and go with a heritage brush.

I love my 2/1 in Super!!!! Great all-arounder.

I have a 2/1 in super silver and highly recommend it. The slightly longer loft on it gives it a different feel than the other Rooney brushes - a little softer on the face and better 'flow through'... Plus, the handle is an ideal size and shape, IMO. I had a 3/2 and found the knot to be a little too large - but that was a very nice brush too...

I had a 3/1 which I hated at first but once it broke in and softened up a bit, and once I'd learnt to lather with this dense brush, grew to really like it.

Unfortunately, it was a shedder, and I returned it for a replacement.

The relacement brush I was sent seemed stiffer, not as dense, scritchier, and doesn't seem to want to bloom. It's nothing like my first brush, and I'm wondering if my first or replacement brush is most typical of the 3/1. Both were Super.

Anyway, there seems to be some variation with Rooney in my limited experience!

I'm looking forward to try my Savile Row 3824 when it arrives.
