Which oil do you use to protect the blade from rust?

I am a newb and I am soon going to try my hand at SR shaving. I have been reading several sources on maintanance and it is always suggested to put some oil on the blade after shaving to protect the blade from rust and also if you are going to store your razor.

What kind of oil is recommended for these occations? I don't want to use something that will be bad for the scales or something that would harm my skin when next shaving. Thanks for any advice on the topic or a helpful link as this topic has probably been covered and I just have not discovered the best link.

Thanks,
Kent

I'm a noob as well, but since I bought my Dovo, I've been using Weaponshield....keeps rust off my guns really well, so I figured it can't hurt. It also gets into the metal pores and protects it long term. I just use a Q-tip and apply it, let it sit for a bit, then wipe off the excess...no harm as I can see so far.

I use these oil-impregnated socks from the superior shave. They work amazing & I haven't had to buy oil at all!

i use kamelienöl from japan, becouse ballistol destroys Brass (rounds are out of brass) and ballistol cleans up the gun and destroyed the particles. I notice, that ballistol create a fast oxidation on my pins.
the second point is, ballistol smells.

i use mineral oil/baby oil suspended in a larger jar of mineral spirts to dunk my blades in and coat with oil..

Food grade mineral oil (Sold in the chemist as a laxative.) It is called paraffin here in Oz. It is just very pure mineral oil with no perfumes, like baby oil uses, and it is a bit thicker and less runny.

i was just seeing if remoil acted like the ballistol and this is what i found, which actually makes me feel better about using it

  • Cleans dirt and grime from exposed metal surfaces while displacing non-visible moisture from metal pores
  • Protects internal and external metal parts from rust and corrosion
  • Exclusive Teflon formula provides a thin, long-lasting film that keeps actions working smoothly by reducing metal-to-metal wear

Mineral oil. You can buy it inexpensively in the laxative section of the drug store. Also, baby oil is just mineral oil with fragrance added to it. I live in humid Miami and mineral oil with the protective sleeves mentioned above from The Superior Shave have kept all my blades free of rust.

Straight mineral oil - USP food grade stuff. Cheap, easy to find.
I have a precision oiler that makes it easy peasy to apply it where I want it.
