Which is the more aggressive : The Old Type or The New Gillette open combs?

Hi All!
I've never had the pleasure of shaving with either, but which is the more aggressive : The Old Type or The New Gillette open combs?
I really like the look of the heads on both of these razors, but I'm not sure which one to look out for.

Thanks!

I think the Old is generally regarded as the more aggressive, but I don't think it's by much.
(personal note -my last attempt with a NEW bit me in a few places, something an OLD has never done)
Ditto George though - if in doubt, get both!

I have a New LC and it's a great looking razor but of the half dozen or so times I've used it I've never failed to draw blood and irritate my neck. never used an Old.

My New LC took a couple weeks to master, but it is one of my faves now. I've never used an Old either. The LC is very good, just get used to it.

The old type is more aggressive. To me it's not even close.
The NEW is a Tech with a comb. The Old is a great razor but requires a much more careful approach.

Old type. Then New Improved. Then NEW. (Most aggressive to least)

But I think the New Improved is the prettiest of the bunch.

Here's my take. Whichever is the "long comb" is more aggressive. The short comb is less aggressive, but both are excellent. I don't think that the difference is that great between them, just a noticeable tad.

While I agree with the first part, I'm afraid I do not agree that the "NEW is a Tech with a comb."
The NEW is a masterpiece carefully machined out of high quality metal. The Tech is a mass-produced cheapie, stamped out of sheet metal. There is no comparison to how they shave, look, or feel in the hand.

As for OP's question: I have tried several versions of both the Old Type and the NEW. The Old Type is typically viewed as more aggressive than the NEW. Probably that is true, but I would characterize the Old Type as less forgiving rather than more aggressive. I like them both, but prefer the shave I get from the NEW. The NEW De Luxe is also more aggressive than the regular NEW. I find it to be the most effective shaver of the whole bunch.

Do you guys shim the blade in any way with the Old Type? I have a single ring in the mail, should arrive tomorrow. I've been using a LC New since February, and love it, a great shaver. But have heard some talk of shimming the old type since the modern blades we use are much thinner than what it was designed for.

Never had a problem with modern blades :)

Old Type is more aggressive to my face. Also, I do not agree that the New is Tech with a comb. News are fantastic shavers.

Now this is a Tech with a comb.

The Old Type is much more aggressive than the New Improved. This is partly due to the fact that it was designed for a different thickness of blade.

I always thought that either (SC or LC) NEW was more aggressive than the Old Type.

IMO, both of them are roughly in the middle of the road.

I've not used my New Improved head yet, but i'd put the others in this order most aggressive first.

Old --> NEW LC --> NEW SC.

I use the NEW LC the most, they are all pretty mild compared to a FaTip or R41 though.
