What's new

Which 4 Vintage Gillettes?

If you were to limit yourself to 4 vintage Gillettes - which 4 would you get? I was thinking:

1. Fatboy.
2. Slim adjustable
3. Superspeed silver tip flare
4. Superspeed red tip.

What do you all think? Is it possible to only buy 4? I have number 3 on the way!!!

I'd swap the Slim for a nice New!

Red Tip SS
Black Handle SS
Late 40's Aristocrat
Fatboy

If there's room for a fifth, I'll keep a Tuckaway New Standard.

Hmm. I have a black handle (not on my original list). I thought it was OK but not great.

I have no idea what a Tuckaway New Standard is.

Since I've made the move from DE to straight razors, I need to re-word your question slightly:

"Now that I'm going to sell almost all of my DE
razors, which four vintage Gillettes will I keep?"

[drum-roll, please]
  • 1921 silver-plated "Big Fellow"
  • 1925 silver-plated "Big Fellow"
  • 1921 silver-plated "New Standard"
  • 1924 silver-plated "Bostonian"
  • 1921 silver-plated "Tuckaway"
OK, that's five... so, sue me.

Dread --

Make room for a 40's Aristocrat. Eliminate either the Fatboy or the slim to make room.

1) Rocket/Parat
2)1940`s SS
3) 1950`s SS/ TV SS
4) Red Tip SS

...and/ or a Tech

If i could own only one vintage Gillette, I would be happy with a flare tip Superspeed, either 1950`s, 1960´s or 1970´s.

1. Red Tip Superspeed
2. Super Adjustable (black handle, all metal head)
3. Slim Adjustable
4. Fatboy

Hmm.... Ok, this is easy.

1) Aristocrat #16.
2) New Big Boy open comb.

Honestly, that's all I need. But if you want me to pick two more:

3) Bostonian.
4) President or Super Adjustable. (Just for the sake of having an adjustable, although I don't really use adjustables much.)

Assuming that you mean razors that we actually own, my list would be:

Aristocrat #66
Aristocrat #66 (gold)
Executive (barber pole version)
Sticky (if it has to be a Gillette, then Toggle)

The #58 and the President were close runners-up.
