What's new

What's the heaviest (weight) DE that you know of?

I started DE shaving with a Merkur Vision. Now I use a Fatboy regularly, as well as my straights. I haven't picked up a new DE in a while, and I'm wondering what you fellas would recommend for a really heavyweight razor. I prefer adjustables, as I like a really aggressive shave, but beyond that I have no brand preference, etc. What say ye?

It might be the new(er) model PILS.

It's so manly they had to clone Chuck Norris to have enough employees who could handle the manufacturing process.

I dunno....the Barabsol beast I picked up here weighs a metric ton! Before that I thought the Big Fellow was the heaviest....

edit: Didn't realize you are looking for a modern DE....But you can't beat the barbasol for heft and aggressiveness!

Agreed. Those razors are a thing to behold...but for the price you can buy a lot of nice creams AND an excellent condition vintage.

Most are going to have that anyway when they come across a Pils hehe. It's hefty but doesn't feel like it to me due to the longer handle and balance. The heaviest thing I have used is a Bull Mastiff by Bob's Razor Works, an equally impressive work. I'll weigh them when I get home. I think the Pils weighs in at 125g.

Pils being the euro sport bike to Bob's being the custom harley chopper which screams Americana. When you shave with a Pils you hear an orchestra, when you shave with a Bull Mastiff you hear the sound of victory, jet fighters, and awesome. I love them both for what they are.

+1

I was going to say the Bull Mastiff XL is quite heavy. Use a Bull Mastiff XL, and then go back to shaving with a Muhle R89, and the Muhle will feel like it weights nothing!!

Contact Cooncatbob of Bob's Razor Works I am sure he can make you a custom handle in any weight you desire.

While the total weight of the razor definitely makes an impact, I find head weight to have the most significant impact on how a razor shaves.

Very nicely said! I've not shaved with either, but I have admired them both. Hopefully at some point I will.

Just for reference.
NEW deluxe 36 grams
NEW-LC 29 grams
NEW-SC 31 grams
Tech 25 grams
Old Type 26 grams
Some of these can vary, The NEW caps can vary depending if they're copper or brass and the late model embossed Tech caps are zinc and are much lighter.
I find that balance can have quite an effect and that's why my BM handles have a removable knob, I find when I put a nickel knob on one of my aluminum UL handles it counter balances the weight of the head and give a neutral balance.

+ 1. I've been spoiled by the Bull Mastiff XL that Bob made for me.
