What's next for shaving?

Gillette had the Mach 3 then Schick came out with the Quattro followed by Gillette with the 5 blade Fusion. What do you think is next?

Next: nano-robots that "live" in your face and chop your whiskers when they reach .1 mm beyond the epidermis. The end of shaving.

I really thought 3 blades was pushing it. I think its now just a battle to get the most blades in a single cartridge.

You know it's so funny they keep cramming more and more blades in these cartridges and soon they will resemble a cheese grater with a handle!
Last week I taught my youngest son how to shave and thanks to one of the members here hooked him up with a 40's gold tech. after one week he is singing the praises of a single blade and a brush.....oh and he thinks his skin is improving also......must be the soap and brush huh!

A cream application that provides BBS in under 30 secs? Leave it on for 60 secs and its permanent BBS for life :w00t:

A laser type of beard hair cutter?

Or Enzymes based soaps?
From the wikipedia under hair removal: Enzymes (fx. the Epiladerm-Complex) that inhibit the development of new hair cells. Hair growth will become less and less until it finally stops; normal depilation/epilation will be performed until that time. Hair growth will return to normal if use of product discontinued. Products include the prescription drug Vaniqa (active ingredient eflornithine hydrochloride inhibiting the enzyme ornithine decarboxylase).

I do seriously wonder where gillette are going to go next, From the reports I have read I think they have learerend that consumers thought 5 blades was a blade to far so they are going to have to be really cunning to come up with the fusion replacment. But i reckon we have at least another 7 years before the next gen comes out.

I think shaving is going to follow along the paths of the auto industry w/ respect to aesthetics.. The razors are going to get all retro looking. There will still be a million blades in the cartridge, but they'll look like a vintage razor, but w/ modern touches.

Seriously, I don't know and am not too concerned about it. I know DEs are working for me and that's what I'm going to continue to use.

Wow!! I used to dream of something like that! Now that I've found you guys and DE, I don't think I would want that now.

I completely agree! Seems like everything is going retro these days. Of course if you really want to go retro, start using the razors and stuff like they used to do in the old days. Oh wait! We already are!:001_rolle

I think they will have some sort of varied blade geometry for each of the 5 blades. Like the first blade is canted 10 degrees to the next above it and so on. Thus they'll advertise a reduction approach to cutting the whisker. They will advertise some revolutionary method for sharpening them.

The actual cartridge will be hinged in a different, supposed, better spot and the handle will be contorted into some misshaped mess with the word "Ergo-" something or other laser etched into it.

The actual handle will either be somewhat retro or resemble graffiti with the mish-mosh of colors. Or they'll release both.

And they'll charge a small fortune for only three blades per pack instead of the now standard four.

Maybe a rechargeable model for the vibrating motor that does no good what-so-ever.

And shaving in general will be dumbed down a bit more.
