Whats a good large brush?

What is a good, cheap, large brush I can purchase? I don't want it too soft because sometimes I use soap instead of cream.

The best thing you can do for cheap is get a big boar brush. Omega makes some VERY nice ones.

I have the 49, which is available from West Coast Shaving for $9. Now, THAT'S cheap!

eh i know boar brushes are stiffer. how much stiffer is that gonna be over my badger brush?... well i only have lower grade badger hair (Tweezerman brush), but still just wondering..

I purchased one of the Jade handled finest brushes and one of the tru-stone chubbies. I am completely blown away by both and like them for different reasons.

The Jade handled brush for 30.00 has VERY stiff and resilient hair with soft tips. It loads up soap and lathers as well as any of my $200+ brushes. The thing that really surprised me is that this brush feels HUGE on the face. It is probably the loft and nice density but it feels like a 26-28mm brush to me. (It feels bigger on my face than either my Emillion or Vulfix #377).

Tony at Penworks also has some larger diameter finest hair brushes that might me your needs. For the quality/price/performance ratio, Penworks rules IMO. (YMMV, etc.)

My experience is that boar is stiff, but the tips are soft. The Omega 49 has such a high loft that it's almost floppy after the lather is built. www.shoeboxshaving.com has a lot of Omega models, many have shorter lofts. I'm thinking about getting a shorter loft boar, myself....

My badger brush is a Rooney 1/2 in Super. It has TONS of backbone and really soft tips. It is by far my favorite of the two, but my boar is VERY close behind.

I've preferred boar for a while now but in the last fortnight have gotten a hold of 2 large Omegas. They 48's enormous but definitely not too floppy for soaps. Does smell a bit tho, I must admit. This seems to be par for the course for the 48 at least for the first wee while.

Can't go wrong with Omega Boar BUT some Crabtree & Evenlyn are closing and you should be able to get their 25mm Super badger that was $85 for $25.
