What's a Fair Price for this Razor?

Just wondering what's a fair price for this razor. The case says Aristocrat and that's what it looks like to me. Date code is W2, which would make it second quarter 1951. Box is not in great shape. Blade holder is missing. But the razor looks quite good considering it hasn't even been cleaned. Some soap scum residue under head. Top has some sort of irregularity. I don't think it's plate loss. Perhaps some of the clear coating has worn off or maybe it's water marks.

Anyway, would appreciate your opinion as to its value. Thanks.

1951 Aristocrat . . . great shaver! I've seen these sell on eBay in the $30-40 range with case in average condition. Of course, a pristine example with blade bank will certainly bring more!

Looks like you have some lacquer loss on the doors, and some corresponding gold wear where the lacquer is missing. Fairly normal condition for these. If there is minimal gold loss, the lacquer can be stripped, the gold cleaned, and the razor re-lacquered. It will last another 60 years, at least!

Paid $30 for it in an antique store. Thought it was probably a fair price; one doesn't come across Aristocrats too often and this one has a box, albeit rather worn.

How does one go about getting the razor re-lacquered and how much does it cost?

Ok, so not a steal but also not a bad deal. Hey, it's my first Aristocrat. Next time I won't pay more than $20.

These are great mild razors. Load it up with a sharp blade and go at it. I've used a few of these and I can't bear to use the minty one I have now. It looks so peaceful in it's coffin.

That's the problem with mint razors and why I refuse to pay the ridiculous prices they command.

I got mine for $10

No, no you did fine. You got a very desirable Gillette cased beauty for a good price. There is always the exception where someone finds a nice razor cheap. Good for them. However don't confuse someones good luck with the going price of the jewel you just acquired. If I had found your item in the wild I wold have jumped on it no questions asked. Congratulations on adding a wonderful razor to your shave den.

I paid $45 from an B&Ber with decent case and blade safe plus a bunch of blades. Razor in pretty good condition...not mint. I think you did quite good.
