What would make a perfect safety razor handle?

I am simply trying to obtain input from the shaving community in regards to custom razors. What, in your own opinion, would be the ultimate shaving handle to use with your current razor? Feel free to list the material, finish, shape, length, diameter, texture, and any other detail including photos, sketches, or links. Also, what would be a fair price you would be willing to pay for this ultimate razor handle?

Thanks!

Several of the above razors are not mass produced, but to your question, my overall favorite design would looks like this-

Composition - Solid Bar Nickel Plated Brass
Length - 3 1/4"
Diameter - 3/8"
Grip - Barber Pole Knurling like below (Gillette Bulldog) from Mr. Razors website

I'm currently in the process of designing/building a totally unique handle which may or may not involve Lego, copper gas pipe, and/or a variety of bones.
Will post pics when completed.

I like the appearance of handles with the barberpole knurling.... unfortunately I do not own one yet. Other favorites of mine are the Gillette Common Bar Handle or Gillette Tech Fat Handle plated in nickel or rhodium and stuffed with a bunch of tungsten putty for added weight.

I have been thinking about Inconel as a material, it has nice heft, corrosion resistance, and I like the color. If cut smooth enough, Inconel wouldn't really need any plating. (I attached a little pic I whipped up). I think a deep groove like a worm gear (or barber pole, depending on your mechinical inclination) that has a pretty hefty knurling would be nice. (On my picture, the grey shaded are would be knurled.) I like unneccessary decorative ends, like the vintage ball ends too (but didn't want to take the time to fiddle with that on paint...)

I have a Hex handled vintage Star also, I like that handle. An application like the one I posted above done on hex stock would be nifty also. (You are making me long for my past days as a machinist / fabricator in the Navy! If only I had a lathe...)

I do really like the heavy but shorter handle like the Merkur 11c and Weber bulldog handle. The Fat tech handle is a winner as well for me. As I say the short, heavy bulldog style here.

My perfect handle would be about 3 1/2" (I don't like long handled safety razors as I don't think longer handles suit the shaving method and I think the Parker handles are far too long), thick enough to get a decent hold of (no pencil thin ones), rounded end so fits comfortably in the palm, and knurled and textured so it has enough but not too much grip when wet.

Hi Alex: You definitely know your razors and handles.

It's hard to beat stainless for the heft and price, but the weight/length are so YMMV. The longer, thinner handles are nice, but I like a shorter, thicker one as well. I think what would be mot enticing would be a different pattern, like Dave's. Also, is anyone making a BRW style Bull Mastiff?

I love to swap heads and handles on my 3-piece razors and experiment with different combos. I can't say I really find any particular set-up that is a real stand-out. And I live iwth a constant fear that if I swap too many at once, I won't be able to figure out which head goes with which handle when I want to put everything back to original.

My current favorite FrankenRazor is a Stahly head with a Tradere handle. I put these two together about 3 years ago and they seem to be a pairing that is as close to perfect as it can get. I use this razor with AstraSP blades when I have a 2-day beard to work on.

A long time ago, I purchased one of cooncatbob's Bull Mastiff handles. It has a neodymium magnet in the end-cap to pick up loose blades, and that has come in handy on numerous occasions. The end-cap comes off, and you can use the shaft with or without it. The handle is reversible and you can put the end-cap and head on either end. Altogether, I think there are 4 different way you can configure this handle, and each one has unique characteristics with regard to weight and balance.
