What Whiskey Are You Using In Your Old Fashioned

I have to say, Elijah Craig 12 YO Bourbon makes a great Old Fashioned. At the price this fine Bourbon sells for, it really isn't over-indulgence.

Old Overholt Rye makes a decent Old Fashioned, but it can't compare.

Mrs Rughi won't be tricked into Blended nor Bourbon and especially not Canadian "Rye". For her, it's Rye Way or the Highway and I keep both Saz Jr and Rittenhouse bond on hand at all times for fine cocktails.

Early on, we used to do the Dickel Tickle a lot :w00t:, but nowadays we're more Old Fashioned. We're even known to drink them Fruit Cocktail style - to ward off scurvy and other assorted ailments.

Old Overcoat in mine. I have a bottle of Buffalo Trace but drink it straight up on the rocks.

Currently 1792 is used for old fashions at the homestead, though I've got a nice bottle of Russll's Rye waiting for a chance to see what it can do in an old fashioned.

Russell's Reserve Rye or Woodford Reserve mixed strong enough to still be able to discern which whiskey it really is.

Never had an old fashioned...but have been wanting to order/try one since ive become a fan of Mad Men the tv show.

I would probably go with Buffalo Trace or Bulleit Bourbon.

I use Alberta Premium for Old Fashioneds and Manhattans. It's a Canadian Whisky that also happens to be made of 100% rye. Their 25 year old is a thing of beauty.

Sounds interesting might have to find that one!

Been kicking around a bottle of Seagram's 7 and it's beginning to wet my appetite for some other Canadian whiskey...hmmm.

The Elijah Craig 12yo has a beautiful smokiness that I just love in my old fashioneds. A dash of fee brothers peach bitters now and then gives a nice twist, and I'm also fair partial to the firey rittenhouse.

I have to agree, I feel that EW makes the best mixer for the money. I keep it in the 1.5 L in my cabinet at all times!

Oh yeah, you can get that where you live. I have Elijah Craig 18 year old single barrel, which WILL NEVER be put in a MIXED drink.

As much as I hate to admit it, being such a whiskey snob, I always thought Jack Daniels No. 7 was a good compliment to a cherry and simple syrup.

My preference for Bourbon would be Maker's Mark. But I'd rather drink that alone.

And who says you have to use Bourbon. It's within the rules to use Canadian Whisky (hey look you're spell checker is broken  ). I'd go with Alberta Premium myself. That or Maker's Mark. Those are the two best in the world of whiskey and whisky that aren't so expensive I'd advocate drinkng them neat 100 percent of the time. Not that they are inferior in quality, Alberta Premium may be dirt cheap (compared to Laphroag and Dalwhinnie), but it's won Canadian Whisky of the Year four years in a row now.
