What's new

What was she thinking?

My younger daughter has been throwing pots since she was in grade school. She got her BA specializing in pottery and for a brief period tried to earn a living at it. Then came marriage, 2 beautiful daughters (one quite recent) and the wheel stayed still.

I became obsessed with this wet shaving experience and realized I needed a shaving mug. As I looked through the recesses of our shelves full of her stuff, I came across this beauty of a raku bowl she made 10 years ago. I didn't even realize we had it, but it now is my favorite piece.

Here with another prize:

I don't know what she had in mind when she made it but it is clearly a shaving bowl!

Very nice.

My favorite bowl is one my son made in school art class for his mother in 2nd grade. It's a bit asymmetrical and not beautiful in the traditional sense, but the shape, weight and thickness make it absolutely ideal for a purpose for which it was never intended.
