What type of hair?

Hey all, I am in search of a quality shampoo, but am unsure as to my hair type and therefore what I should be buying.

Little background, I believe I have psoriasis (or at least get dandruff) and a little Head and Shoulders helps out. That being said, my hair will get oily during the day and if I don't shower at night it will be very oily in the AM when I wake up. One thing to note is I do wear a ball cap almost all day at work...not really an option either.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Start looking for a shampoo that contains Pine Tar as it will deal directly with the Psoriasis. It sounds like you might have oily hair unless your job causes you to sweat a lot. It sounds like you definitely need to change up your shampoo and if you use conditioner that needs to be changed too.

There are several brands out there with the Pine Tar so you could do a Google Search to find one....

Good luck

I posted a thread here not to long ago about concerns with my oily hair. I ended up switching to a shampoo bar. With a bar you don't even need a conditioner because it doesn't strip you of your natural hair oils.

Anyways check out the thread, there's some other recommendations as well.

To the OP, I gave my preference in Post #2 of that thread.

I would look into a bar with neem oil and/or tea tree oil. I am currently using a pine tar soap, but it by itself doesn't seem to completely cure my dandruff issue. I've had good results with a neem/tea tree oil shampoo bar in the past, but went away from it because of cost (mostly due to shipping). I will be trying a new bar that has all three (neem, tea & pine tar), but at a more reasonable cost. I also encourage you to try local/artisan soaps over the mega-corps. Look for soaps that are either specifically for oily hair, or contain as few oily components as you can find.

Also, if you use a conditioner for detangling, consider switching to a vinegar rinse. Some conditioners can contribute to the appearance of oily hair.

Regards.

You can find a number of "natural" products on Etsy. The one that I will be trying next personally is A Wild Soap Bar's pine tar/neem soap, which I've seen on Amazon for $4.99. I've not tried them yet, so your mileage may vary. I'm trying them because I like what they have to say on their website and they are in the same state as me.

Whatever you try, I hope it helps you.

Regards.

I would advise against the Pine Tar to be honest. Some people might have luck with it but you are much better off looking for something containing tea tree (antiseptic and antibacterial) and lemon (deep cleansing). Or get two shampoos as a deep cleansing shampoo should only be used every 3rd time you shampoo.
If you need conditioner make it a very light one. You can get tea tree ones that are nice. Make sure you are only applying it lightly to the ends of the hair and you are not working it into the root/scalp at all. If you do put it on the scalp and/or you don't rinse out your conditioner properly, you will get flaky/itchy scalp with oily hair like you describe.

Do not use 2-in-1s, shampoo and conditioners in one etc.
If you have any kind of dry scalp condition they will not help it.
