What the ? Gillette Slim Adj.

Lots of pictures that show the details so it would be easy to spot any issues. Also, the pictures make it unlikely that the seller has anything to hide.

Don't Drink and Ebay!

<<<-----------Guilty.

But seriously. If I had a razor I loved and would like to use for the rest of my life but it was in poor condition, I'd pay that for one that was mint. And I'd never buy another razor again.

Wow, that went a bit high!

Mine is the same, has the same broken case hinge, but has all of the paint numbers, and i got it for 35US. :p

Clearly someone REALLY wanted a slim. I have paid far too much on occassion just because i hate trying to get a "good" deal and just want the damn razor. :)

Thanks for the feed back. Absolutely do not think anything was wrong with the razor. In fact thought it was nice and bid myself. Happy for the seller and new owner as well. I have bought a few very nice cased adjustable razors on Ebay for somewhat lesser dollars. This one seemed to go for much more $$$ than what I have seen so far.

I deal extensively on fleabay, and have given up on trying to determine why some items sell for many times their value and why some items sell for less, sometimes much less than their value. Good pics help, but are not a conclusive factor. When I see reason being left behind, I just step aside.

Indeed. Sometimes the bidding fever just gets the best of folks and they get carried away. The key is to set the limit and not getting sucked into a bidding war. Once in a while, you get surprised on an item that somehow nobody seemed to notice.

Does anyone else think that the numbers didn't have paint in them? I keep looking at the picts, and it looks like the numbers are paintless, which more than likely, to me at least, means that this was just cleaned very well to hide surface blemishes.

I have too many Slims and just came across another one.

One was my father's so even though it's probably the dog of the bunch, I'll never sell it.

One I got because I wanted a "birth year" razor.

I'm not sure I remember how I got the other four or five.

Perhaps it's time to hit the BST and unload a few, if people want them this much it seems unfair to hang on to that many user grade Slims....:tongue_sm

Maybe someone got nicked by the "set it and forget it" maximum bid.
But then, who would put a maximum bid of over $100 for a Slim that's not NOS?
Silly ebay. You never know what's going to happen.
You'd have better luck predicting the weather.

"There's gold in them thar hills and there's gold in my razor collection. Maybe i'll start selling mine, if he went over a hundred for a broken lid hinge I could retire if I sell mine!:lol::lol::lol:

This isn't the first time I have seen a very high price for a sparkling slim with a case.

Radar O\'Reilly put his finger on it: it went through an ultrasonic bath and with all of the pictures some individual thought it was in mint condition.

I bid on one some time ago and it eventually went for $65. I later saw the same razor back on the bay and e-mailed the owner who admitted he paid too much for it based on the pictures and how "shiny" it looked. I asked him about the case - and he said he did not think it was original - but didn't know. I also asked him about the date and he did not know about the Gillette codes, either. I got the impression he really was not that knowledgeable about the razor and just got carried away with the bidding process! The second time around the razor went for $35.

yeah, paint loss and a broken case: $20 would be my maximum if I didn't already have a few.

Note that the ebay seller supplied all the photos and text needed to make a rational decision. They could have highlighted the missing paint better, but we can certainly see the missing paint in the pics.

And this points out what I've always maintained, that there is a huge difference between folks who use ebay as an auction site and those who use it as a flea market.

Someone help me understand why this Slim Adj. sold for so much. Any idea?

2 or more stupid bidders is the answer to your question.:biggrin1:

I paid $28.00 for mine, and it still has its paint on the numbers. Its in Excellent condition! Just received it yesterday, and I'm happy with the price I paid. Been shaving with the slant, and it provides a smooth bbs shave. I wanted another razor though just to try something completely different, and for when I'm in a little more of a hurry.
