What's new

What size brush stand?

Currently I have an 830 and a SOC. What size stand do I need to hold them knot down?

I'm looking at the cheap acrylic stands right now. Are they OK? Or should I go for something better?

FYI, my brushes are not on display, they live their lives in the medicine chest when not in use. Appearance doesn't really matter for the stand.

Two weeks ago, when faced with having to find a stand for my Tulip, I took my brushes off their stands, put the stands in a drawer, and now have the brushes sitting upright. Problem solved.

That's how my brushes have always been. I have noticed that when I hang them from the wire rack in the bathroom the bristles don't splay as much on the 830 and it is easier to put it in the mug for presoaking.

That's why I'm looking to hang them on a stand.

Call WCS and they will help you out. They've even gone as far as to pull my brush and blade model and do a test fit on the stands I've been considering.

Leave your brushes out to dry completely before putting them inside an enclosed area without good air circulation.

If you can keep them on your counter or an open air shelf this is best.

In side the medicine cabinet is the worst of the worst.

Remember even though a brush looks and feels dry it is still damp down deep in the knot for at least 2-4 days depending on the size and density of the knot.

I agree with the advice to let your brushes dry out for at least a few days before storing them in an enclosed space (maybe you do that already). I live in a dry climate and have been been surprised by how much moisture a knot will tend to retain in its core for 48 hours or more after use, even out here. You can get a sense for this just by sticking your finger in there.

Personally, I'm not inclined to use the medicine cabinet for brush storage -- just too much potential for humidity to do ugly work, even if the knots are fully dry when they go in there.

Don't use a stand so I can't be much help there, but good luck.
