Sorry but it does not look good to me. (I do not recommend shaving with anything carrying rust on it due to the danger of tetanus..)
The rust (from an old blade) is easily removed. The razor itself can't rust. Should clean up nicely and be a great shaver.
Based on the serial #, I'd say it's a 1914 Single Ring Old Type Gillette. Check out the Wiki http://http://wiki.badgerandblade.com/index.php/US_Gillette_Dating_Information
Don't boil it . . . you can soak it for a bit in hot soapy water, then scrub with a toothbrush and Scrubbing Bubbles. Follow that up with the baking soda and aluminum foil trick.
Boiling isn't needed, and only subjects the handle to more heat than it needs and can exacerbate the crack that it probably already has.
It will clean up nicely and should earn a treasured place in your rotation! Enjoy!!![]()
Rust has nothing to do with tetanus.
If rust mixes up with blood in veins than I think it would cause tetanus. But since he knows how to clean the rust it should be all right.
Nah, tetanus is just a bacterial infection (Clostridium Tetani). Rust itself won't do anything, its just that rusty things are often left out in the elements and it provides a great rough surface for bacteria to grow on. Just clean it up and you're good to go
