What is this?

I've been watching this one out of curiosity and was amazed to see it go for $610. What exactly is it? Is this actually a multi-blade razor, perhaps a forerunner to the Trac 2, Mach 3, etc? Or did the seller just accidentally put too many blades in?

And did somebody here get it?

I've seen drawings and ads for these, but never saw a real one. Wow.

Shaving history. Wish I had the spare dough for a fantastic collectors item like that! They have sold for a whole lot more than that before.

wow - besides probably weighing a ton, it does not really have a guard of any sort, except at the edges. It appears to be "single edge" as well, more like "single edges". Very cool end cap tho.

Yeah, especially after looking at the guy's face on the handle bottom:lol:

Well you beat me to it. I was going to post about this razor. I would have loved to own it, but way too rich for me.

Fabulous item, just fabulous. And this one is a rather plain version of these razors. Others are much much more ornate. Look at the box on this one:

I don't imagine it's Medusa. I would think a sun god if anything

To symbolize terminal razor burn?

I think someone around these parts has one of them and IIRC, they are Italian made. And, I'm gonna vote for Medusa for the bottom of the handle.

A gold version of the MultiPlex/Medusa sold for about $1800 about three years ago on the bay. I watched that auction with some interest. Apparently there are some serious European collectors of these. The one I saw used five blades, non-interchangeable, each uniquely marked, and they had to be assembled in a specific order.

It really is pretty incredible what some razors will sell for. Based on the linked photos to other similar sets, it appears that the multi-blade system was how the razor was intended to be used. Is this correct? If so, then wouldn't this be the first multi-blade razor, predating the Trac II by some 50 years?
