What is the history behind the Old Spice bottle?

Gentlemen,

Does anyone know why the OS bottle is shaped the way it is? Was it just inspired design or does it resemble a historic nautical item? BTW I love the old bottles. I buy them and refill to give as gifts whenever I find them at antique stores.

Says it was based on an old Apothecary bottle.

Although Wikipedia says it was based on the shape of a buoy.

That's possibble, as it does resemble the upper part of older type buoys.

I think it was supposed to be a buoy. Stories behind other famous bottle shapes are pretty neat though. Tabasco bottles are supposed to similar to a perfume bottle which originally housed the delicious nectar. Coke bottles were designed to be reconized by blind customers. Anyway...I digress.
