My go to are:
La Toja
Aqua Velva Ice Blue
Proraso Red
All these suit my skin and smell pretty good to boot.

I am not contending it is the best, but I love 4711 cologne as an aftershave. It has a little alcohol invigoration going on, a pleasant light citrus scent, no oiliness, and no staying power, which appeals to me.
The Veg, by a long ways... jk. Whatever smells the best after shaving!
My own combination of half Everclear and half witch hazel.
It depends on the time of year and if it is a work day or not. Warm weather or a work day? Skin Bracer or vintage Gillette SunUp or Brut. Cold weather Clubman Whiskey Woods, regular Clubman, or Cuba Gold. Any time of the year work day or not, Gable's Bay Rum or Clubman Lime Sec.
