What is similar but cheaper than Dr.Harris Arlington cream?

I love Dr.Harris Arlington cream as it is thick and concentrated. The thing I am not crazy about is the price. Is there a cream out there that is similar to it's thick creaminess and concentration for a better price?

I wondered the same about the DRH Marlborough. I have had a puck of soap in my small rotation for two years, and it is 75% still there. It is one of my favorites and thus gets a lot of attention. Nothing I have found comes close to that scent either... I say, buy a puck of the Arlington soap and consider it a GREAT value.

Well I recieved my TOBS Eton College and it KILLS Dr.Harris Arlington cream! I only use a small dab which is 1/3 of what I would use out of the tube of Arlingtons. It is so thick and creamy I use about 1/2 tsp of water in a mug with the TOBS. I get 2 full face fulls with it. Goes such a long way and I love the tub (did not like the squirt bottle). With a buy one get one 1/2 off it is a steal!

While I do like Dr Harris Arlington, but if you're looking for something a bit cheaper, go with TOBS Jermyn Street. The scent is the best of all the shaving creams I've encountered. It's not citrusy like Arlington, but it's a modern fougere scent. Also, performance is top notch. You'll end up with a thick and creamy lather. It's definitely my favorite cream, and I suspect if you try it, you'll like it.

Garry's sample shop here on B&B sells samples of Jermyn Street shaving cream for $1.50 + shipping. Here's the link to it:

I agree with what others have said, there isn't anything quite like the Arlington scent. Maybe you could buy a refill puck for $15 which is half the price of the soap in a wood bowl. Then put it in a different dish. I've read great things on here about the Ikea tin sets that fit most pucks.

I am trying TOBS samples currently -- today I used Lemon and Lime. The first two shaves were questionable as the razor wanted to stick and skip on my face. I found out tonight that TOBS requires lots and lots of water, an almond sized dab required about four tablespoons of water plus whatever is in a soaked and drained but not shaken brush. Tonight's lather was protective and cushiony without the skip and stick of the first two shaves with TOBS. I also had plenty of lather for a two pass shave and a face wash. I could have made another pass plus with what was left over so I know now to use a bit less cream next time. Since you are using so much water lathering does take a bit longer, it seems really thin at first but after a couple of minutes the lather fluffs up nicely.
