What's new

What I am giving for fathers day

He has never tried wet shaving, and I dont have it in me to let him keep using those :cursing: cartridges. So I scoured for a good looking slim, thought being he can adjust it to his own personal exposure needs, and the rest is self explanatory. Should be a good start... he better use it

I am trying the same thing. For my Dads birthday last February, I bought him some TOBS cream and a really nice Best Badger Brush. It was much better than what I have been using all this time. He still hasn't even touched it yet because he says he is still using up his stocks of canned goo and good news disposable cartridge razors. He even said to my Mum recently, I hope the daft bugger didn't spend too much money on him! Well recently I heard that his first shaving razor ever was a small, metal TTO so since he grew up in England, I figured it was probably a British Rocket so that is my most recent purchase for him complete with a nice case. Maybe with some better gear than those nasty good news razors, he will get off the fence now. If not, I am just going to have to throw out all his old stock when I visit him in a couple of weeks. :batman:

I finally got the Made in England, British Rocket for my Dad in the mail yesterday. It looks brand new and the case is immaculate. The british rockets for the Canadian market came in a red case. I just love the weight of it. 64g verses 46g for my 1952 steel handled black tip Super speed that I started with and still use in rotation. Too bad they didn't use date codes but is there any way to tell roughly how old it is? It came with what is maybe the original unused Gillette Super Blues blade dispenser.

So I think I have another convert under my belt. So far that makes 3

I wrapped all the items individually and put them in a gift bag. Once he got it all opened up and spread out, he seemed a little intimidated by it. I told him not to worry, and I would show him what everything does and how to use it all. I brought him in the bathroom and started whipping up some proraso and showing him how to use the razor (I shaved my own face while he watched). the whole shebang from beginning the lather to finishing up with the alum bloc and how to clean and store everything. He seemed a little less intimidated after that, and said that he wished he would have know since now he was sad that he just shaved today so he will have to wait. He usually shaves about once or twice a week, only when he really has to... I told him that will likely change  I told him to feel his fresh shaven face and then feel mine... he said well, mine feels like sandpaper and yours feels like a babys butt (he did not use the word butt) :tongue_sm

Overall, he said that he will give it an honest try and was looking forward to it. He seemed impressed and a little blown away by the gift, and thanked me many times. I told him he should give it about a month, since there are a lot of transitions going on at the same time. I advised him that if he wanted to just use his cart razor for the first few times with the lather and the brush, that's ok and that it will still result in a better shave than he is used to and a better post shave feel. I also gave him links to mantic59, geofatboy, and of course B&B. I did not link him to the method shaving guy with his hydrogenic sack and buttress (whose name escapes me... enchante or whatever...) because I did not want to scare him
This was by far the most fun I have had giving a gift in a long time :biggrin1:
