What handles fit properly on a Gillette New?

I have a Gillette New long comb and am planning on buying a short comb as well. I don't care for either the bar or ball end handles, though.

I'd like to put different handles on them without spending a huge amount of money. I tried fitting a Matador Toro Mastiff, which threads well but is a little too wide at the neck and doesn't seem to seat properly. I don't know if adding a washer or a nut would fix this and still look halfway decent/not get lost down the drain when I was changing a blade.

I'm thinking of trying to find a pair of Gillette Tuckaway handles with the diamond perforation patterns, but I don't know if they would have problems seating properly as well.

The other option was getting custom handles, from UFO (like a Kaiser short, which would be very nice but expensive, and apparently the red bronze requires detarnishing every few months?) or maybe Bob's Razor Works (the Toro Mastiff handle design but hopefully with a neck width that is narrow enough to seat well).

Has anyone tried the Tuckaway handles (or knows the neck width) or has a different suggestion?

Many thanks!

A Fat Handle Tech handle will work.
I bought a custom handle for mine.

Much to my surprise, a Tuckaway handle will NOT work because of the narrow opening for the top of the handle. The NEW threads are the same as all other Gillettes and most modern razors (except for FaTip and Joris), but the base plate will only accommodate handles with narrow tops.

There are at least two different diameters of handles and matching heads as you can see (left is larger), Gillette changed the sizing of the spot facing to accommodate this. This has nothing to do with the one being a long comb.

I encountered this once when trying to install a common bar handle on the smaller diameter flat spot. A machinist could easily do this -- or buy yourself a spot facing drill bit.

Yecch regarding drilling it out (I struggle to hang pictures well, and toggle bolts are the maximum level of tool competence for me) - so it's Gillette New handles or customs.

I ended up with a Tech instead, which negated the entire "that darn raised rib in the middle" issue.

My favorite aftermarket handle is my Pendragon handle in polished bronze.

If I still had my long comb New (I do still have my short comb New), I'd probably be using a Tech fat handle. I haven't tried this in long enough to know if it fits the narrower-gapped News . . .
