What's new

What do you love about B&B?

I've been a member here for a relatively short time but in all honesty I've come to really love this community. I've learned so much and not just about shaving or skin care. I am a member of several other forums and have been in the forum community for about 10+ years, and it's so refreshing to be a part of such a mature and fun loving group. After being here for only a few months, I'm now asking myself why B&B members are so courteous to one another and what makes this community so much more mature and more care free than many others on the web.

My theory (and it's not so complicated) is that most of the members here are not here to prove anything or to show off. They are simply here to communicate with others who share the same interest and goals.

As such, members here are less likely to act childish because they have nothing to prove (like many car forums, sports forums, etc). I could say that maybe the average age here is a bit higher, but then I would be insulting our fellow younger members (i.e. under 25) and that's not fair to them. I actually believe that if you're in your early 20s or younger and you are a member of this community, then you're well beyond your age in maturity and life experience. I'm sorry I didn't find this community earlier in my life!

Anyway, I just wanted to open a discussion of what you like about B&B and what makes it different.

I agree with all that.

Initially i just wanted to ask a few questions and get pointed in the right direction. But then i started reading a few other threads and felt just like you.

I'm 29 btw.

And about the title, i love the pictures. Specially when they are set up a certain way, you'd think some of these guys were professional photographers

I would also agree with those thoughts. The thing that sets B&B apart, at least for me, is that everyone on here seems generally willing to help anyone else, from the greenest newb to the most seasoned pro. I have gotten good guidance here on shaving, naturally, but other topics as well. This is also the only forum that I have been a part of that doesn't devolve to name calling and flame wars.

Exactly!

Along with the willing to help, B&B has such a knowledge base outside of shaving. From liquor to clothes to everyday life, it's all here without the BS.

The LACK of one-upmanship is amazing. Every other group I've been on has had at least one "snot out" per week, usually deriding some poor newbie who's only trying to learn something. One photo group even had to start a newbie question section, with fairly strict rules against insults.

I've been on quite a few forums, and this is hands down the most polite that I've been on.
Nice people, good info, a generally well priced BST, whats not to like?

I love the passion, experience, esprit de corps, professionalism and overall depth (shaving and otherwise), of knowledge of our members. I also love the conceptual, intellectual and topic diversification (oh yes...lest us not forget the humorous and compassionate side), framework of the threads and posted replies. :001_tt1:

I think a part of it may be the type of person the gets into traditional shaving. They have a connection and respect for those that came before them. There not the type looking for a quick fix and are willing to put in a little effort to do things properly. I also see many military members here and a lot of respect for the men and women that serve and protect their country. I'm speaking very generally but it really is good group of people here.

I came here to learn about wetshaving. I stayed for the company.
I agree totally, and Denard was the first person to offer help in almost every newbie post that I had at first. The mods here are top notch. I will echo the earlier comment that stated that people who are drawn to traditional shaving are not looking for a quick fix, or to boast as they are with other subjects. I had never heard of a PIF before joining here and the concept of it really hit home, and made me realize what type of people are members here. I have been a member of many many many forums, and this one has the best group of members bar none. I'm 34.

There is a level of respect here that is almost unheard of on the internet. On what seems like every other forum, when you are learning something new and have a question you get lambasted for not knowing. Here, everyone is a gentleman or a Lady and will answer your question without making you feel dumb.

It is all in my signature. I can pretty much say I have found a good amount of all of it already within this group of fine people. Except I don't really come here for God, I don't know if Jesus cared to shave his beard. :)
