A fine fine shave today on a 48-hour beard:

Merkur Progress, opened up a little more, with a Personna Lab Blue blade (2)

Arko in stick form

AP Shave Co. synthetic tuxedo brush

Clubman SR aftershave, Assured lotion, Clubman powder

Shower, splashed my face with softened water, a little Arko as a pre-shave, then applied the stick to cheeks and throat and whipped up a great lather with the damp brush. As an experiment I opened the Progress up to (are ya ready for this) 4 for my first and WTG pass. Almost no blade feel, but I knew the whiskers were being mown down. Reset to 3 for lower lip, then relathered and went ATG on cheeks and throat. Down to 2, lower lip (verrrry carefully), and pass 3, XTG, with cleanup. Done! No irritation, no nicks, and very close to BBS everywhere.

Verdict: 9.85 -- a new record.

Today's shave 19JAN21

Prep
: Warm water splashes
Razor: Gillette SS K-1
Blade: GSB (5)
Brush: Duke 2 best
Cream : D R Harris rose
Aftershave: B&M Diamond
Rating : 9.5/10

Finished up my tub of Diamond finally so I'm starting to work through my DRH cream samples. I had rose available today and that's what I used. I knew it before, but I'm just not a fan of the rose scent profile while shaving. Nothing wrong with it, but not for me. Regardless it lathered up very quickly and provided a nice smooth shave. I think the Duke is fully broken in, and has become one of my favorite brushes. SS matched with the GSB provided a smooth pull/tug free shave with 2 passes with and across the grain. No nicks or cuts. Finished off with the B&M Diamond aftershave splash and received minimial feedback. Not my fave cream and a/s combo but I'm just trying to use the Diamond a few more times before PIF'ing it (transferring at work after tomorrow and i'll PIF to someone else on the ship!)

Was a 10/10 shave but the rose scent put me off. Tossing the rest of that sample. Happy shaves all!

Prep: Hot shower, Proraso Green pre/post
Cream: Proraso Green
Brush: Razorock Big Bruce
Razor: Karve CB Stainless, OC-D plate
Blade: Nacet (fresh)
Post: Proraso Green splash

10 / 10. 3 passes; only touchup was one tiny spot under chin. Perfectly smooth comfortable shave. Post-shave feel is great.

It is around minus 15 C outside right now, but I still enjoy that icy blast of Proraso Green even in winter; very refreshing. The green pre-shave wasn't for any functional benefit, just for more menthol :)

Pre-Shave: Cold water splash - OPR Bay Rum shave soap
Soap: Dr. Jon's Anne Bonny
Brush: Je & Co Tuxedo synthetic (Night Sky)
Razor: Karve Brass OC (Plate B)
Blade: Astra SS (1)
Post-Shave: Cold water splash - Stirling Bay Rum scented Witch Hazel - Lucky Tiger Face Tonic
AS: WSP Bay Rum

Trying a blade I shelved long ago, but still had hanging around. I pulled out my notes and saw that I actually liked it. Two very small weepers on the lower right side of my neck...my fault, not the setup...caused by cleanup passes without lather...thankfully, they were very minor. I took a point off accordingly. Other than that though, a good shave. I had too much bloom water in the bowl when I started whipping up the lather so the soap needed some extra work to get to a consistency I was happy with. But the soap responded well. Matching a Bay Rum with Lime and Black Tea with a Bay Rum with Lime.

On another note, I found that the Charcoal Goods SS SB LvL2 is ok for two or three days in a row. I could use it daily without any issues. Was going to go five straight days, but wanted to try the Astra SS in my Karve this morning.

Happy Shaves, Everyone.

Back to the Saponificio Bignoli Indian Sandalwood sample today and after another pleasant shave I still have it ahead of Truefitt and Hill's Sandalwood Cream on all aspects. I had to load a bit more product today as my Pro 49 eats up more lather than my Mondial but I still didn't need a lot of this product for a three pass shave. Similar to previous shaves, there was no discernible scent with the Truefitt & Hill Aftershave Balm sample which is dissapointing.
Overall it was a very pleasant three pass shave, with minimal irritation or feedback from the Alum block.
