What's new

What "birth year" razor should I get?

I've decided it would be fun to have a DE razor from my birth year, 1967. What should I be looking for? I'm sure there's some good stuff out there, as well as a lot of junk, which I'd like to stay away from.

What say you?

I would say find your favorite go to Gillette style......I am currently on the hunt for mine....

Good luck and happy searching!!

M date code on Gillettes. What's your quarter? There's the Gillette Slim Adjustable, the Black Handle Super Speed, a Tech, the Knack, and a Lady Gillette. Those are all the Gillettes that I know of for that year.

Personally, I'd go for the Slim, the Tech, and the Super Speed. I've never had much interest in Lady Gillettes or the Knack. YMMV.

I have them all from 1961 and like Awesomeli said, I too enjoy them all! If I was only able to keep 1 of them it would be the Slim. Of all my Gillettes the Slim is the one I grab the most! Something about that razor just gives me a great shave every time.

That's great!!!

If SWMBO will go along with it......I'm trying to carve out a little corner for my stuff.....not working out real well......yet!!!

OP, of all the razors available my opinion is the Slim is the cream of the crop. For me a Tech would be too mild and too common. Superspeed.....I wasn't overly impressed with the shave as it's too light a razor. I am still trying to figure out the Slim, but it has the right weight and a great deal of versatility. Plus they look great replated in nickel or rhodium.

Slim.

I got it! Much thanks to member Hillbilly Pick, who upon seeing this thread offered up a M2 Slim. Not just my year, but my quarter even! Got it today and it's stunning.

Shave to follow...

Grrr! 1961 is also my birth year, but I can never find a Tech or Flair Tip SS made in my birth quarter. I do have a Fat Boy and a Slim ...

Just joined the group here and was going to ask the same question when I saw this thread. So the vote seems to be the slim.
Are all the Superspeeds with a M-4 code black handled? Also are the slims coded the same?

I've made it easy for myself by cheating a bit. Born in 1945. Since the company began in 1945 I buy anything MUHLE that I like.

Welcome to B&B! the answers to your questions are: Yes and yes.

I see many great razors pop up in our B/S/T area, and the prices are always very reasonable, whether it's vintage or modern. You do have to watch closely and often as they tend to sell quickly. However, I have never had a bad transaction here and in fact have never dealt with more honest, genuine people anywhere.
