What are your favorite matches?

Even when I didn't smoke, I really like lighters... a gadget that makes fire? Awesome! I recently picked up a bundle of boxed matches (Diamond brand) to give match lighting a try. I like it, but these matches are garbage! Half the time the match head doesn't light the stick or it doesn't even flame but just burns in a moving spark.

Where do you get your matches? What kind do you like?

Always save the cedar wrap of ceegars and split them. They make great matches. I don't know where I get all the cedar but I have quite a bit. Part of the ritual.

I use the Diamond kitchen matches, and have never had an issue with them. Occasionally one doesn't work, or burns out too soon but that's the exception.

The ones that I bought were the green tipped strike on box kind. I should have bought one of the bigger boxes, I think those tend to have more of a head on them. The red heads seem to work better from what I remember, too.

Red Bird strike anywheres, mostly because that is about all you can find here in Canada. They come in two sizes, regular and kitchen match.....I use the latter around the house, and the former I take with me, as they fit in my vesta boxes.

That's what I have. Hopefully I just have a bad batch, because I have a hell of a time lighting them. I'm shredding the box with all the striking I'm doing, and I quite often have to pull out the Bic to light the matches to light my pipe. Which means I quite often just use the Bic.

That's the problem that I'm having too. The striker strips wear out half way through the box. Have you had the ember burn up the entire match head but never actually develop into a flame?

Sounds like you guys need to lift the quality of matches just a touch.

I've heard of folks using matches and it makes sense that it would allow for your tobacco to taste "cleaner" but I smoke outside and didn't really think I would be able to use them. Are you all using these outside and are able to keep it lit long enough to light properly? I've been using a Zippo pipe lighter for years now.

I only use them inside, and honestly I use a lighter most of them time then, too.

When I do use matches...I use cigar matches (about 3 1/2 in long), I get from my local liquor store.

This is a old "3 Matches" Cigar video (which I think is still cool), to light a cigar (won't work too well in windy

cigars does have a sort of 'joie de vie' (joy of life), feel to it that I have to share it with you!

No, I don't have that problem. I'll occasionally get a spark that doesn't catch, but it never burns up the whole head.

Right now I am using Coleman camp matches which are pretty much garbage for smoking... And for camping... But it's the only thing I could find in the PX or Commissary when I was shopping that day!
