Feeling a bit under the weather, so a hot toddy with Gentleman Jack this evening.
Cardinal Mendosa is right behind meCurrently saving up for a run to the large liquor store for a special treat:
A bottle of Brandy de Jerez
It's likely I may have a choice between Cardinal Mendosa and Grand Duc D'Alba
For those not familiar with Brandy de Jerez, it's aged in the Solara system, just like sherry. So, it develops a complex flavor fairly quickly.
Solara - aged 6 months+
Solara Riserva - aged 1 year +
Solara Gran Riserva - aged 3 years +
Most (not all companies double the minimum aging)
I know what you're thinking even the last one barely gets credit as an aged Bourbon.
The magic is that due to the Solara ageing, a portion of the Gran Riserva is 25+ years old.

An Introduction to Brandy de Jerez - On the Sauce Again
Brandy de Jerez is a brandy made exclusively in the Sherry Triangle in Spain and it is protected by denomination of origin.onthesauceagain.com
Solera Gran Reserva is much more complex in both flavour and aroma. If aged in PX-sherry butts, you will get plenty of sweetness on the palate with a very pleasant mouthfeel. Expect notes of vanilla, cacao, black fruits and toffee. The texture can be almost syrupy.
I have had a taste of Remy Martin Louis XIII cognac, and I prefer the Brandy de Jerez. The XIII was like a perfect note on a strativarious violin. Brandy de Jerez is like a small chamber orchestra playing just for you.
Hang in there Buster….For 2022 I did a dry January and February. I survived and not sure how?I’m living vicariously through you all. I’m 12 days in on a dry January. Kirkland sparkling water until the 31’st for me.
