What's new

What are these razors?

I was given these old razors today. Does someone knows what they are?

- The blue handle one has no marking. It weight 40 grams and the handle is 4in long.
- The silver one is a Gillette, weight 55 grams and the handle is 3in long. Marking under the head says:
Upper left: REG US
Upper right: PATOFF
Lower left: Gillette
Lower right: MADE IN USA
Both open and close freely and doesn't rattle when closed so I guess they are in working order.

Do you think the blue color is some kind of paint? Will it peel of when I'll clean the razor?

In your opinion, is one of these old razors worth to use? If yes, could they be a good starter for a newbie without any DE shaving experience or would it be better to wait for the Feather Portable I just ordered recently?

pixmo...give them a soak in CLR or lime-away for an hour, they are not in mint condition, and you won't hurt them..they will be much more beautiful after a soak, then rinse and dry...you'll love the difference

Hi, actually i think the blue handle is a british gillette slim twist, the tto knob is a bit different than a us knack, the handle is plastic and should clean up nicely. i have a couple of those and they are very nice and mild shavers, if loaded with a feather they do a quite good job :thumbup1:

just my 2 cents

+1

it looks like a Super Slim Twist from the 90s

Thanks for your infos. So, we have here:

- a Gillette Super Speed made in 1947-1950 (no date code)

- a Gillette Slim Twist made in 1976 in England (I found the country and the W1 date code under the head after cleaning). The Slim Twist and the Knack (US) show a different TTO knob.
