What's new

What a bummer...

Well, I removed the scales from an old W and B that I got on fleabay, sanded and polished the blade, cut new pins, peened the first side nicely, peened the second side nicely, and then just as I was about to finish (I swear, probably two or three more taps with the hammer and I would call it a wrap), I cracked the scale :(

I learned a lot though, I think I can get the hang of depinning/repinning.
I have some extra scales laying around so I'll give it another go later on.

Don't worry, it happens.

I usually crack them when removing the pin though. (thankfully it only happens to the ones already trashed.

Now is a good time to try your hand at making a set of scales.

Thats why they say to use a spoon or if you use a hammer a very light jewelers hammer is what to use. depending on the scale material you can crack scales super easily or very easily.
