Westernizing Kamisori's by putting scales and shorting the handles.

I'm thinking about modifying a Kamisori blade by altering a westernizing the blade as a project. I have several blades I bought from Japan that are like this and love them. Anyone done this here? Been thinking about this for a while and looking to duplicate what I already have.

I have not done what you are asking about, but there are folding kamisoris. And I have taken western blades that were broken and made Kami-sized razors as well.

Yes, understood you. No reason you cannot. Be cognizant that the everything but the edge is a softer iron/steel and potentially more prone to rust. I would probably keep them as made, but it’s all just preference, so….enjoy.

First project blade. Going to be a little bigger. This looks like an unused barbers blade. Ordered the pins and scales. I may do one other conversation.

Any pics? I think I am more comfortable with the kamisori style with non-folding style and am looking to do the opposite of what you have...

In the picture from my post you quoted there is a folding kamisori and a Henkel I modified to kamisori length more or less since it was already broken. The opposite of that would seem to be a typical kamisori razor. Unless you mean a non-folding western straight (no, I don’t have that). I have never tried it, but it would seem that a western straight razor that doesn’t fold would be pretty large and bulky to shave with. Perhaps that is just preference.
