What's new

Well, it's gone....

My mustache that is. After 31+ years, I shaved my upper lip on Saturday. After a couple days of looking like I had a rash under my nose, now on Wednesday is the first day with full three passes. Oh, the things you forget, like the coolness of your exhale, how to not have a bottle seal to your lip while drinking :blushing: ,.... And the reactions from my wife and kids, none of whom have ever seen me without it - priceless!

So tell me, have any of you come to the parting of the ways with facial hair after a long tenure? What's been your experience?

I have only grown beards whilst on leave etc for the past 21 years. I got quite used to them but I admit I much prefer my face without them. :001_smile

I remember when I fist saw my father in law without is mustache and a shaved head...

I walked in and took me a good 10-15 seconds to recognize him... I'm sure my face was priceless...

i usually go with the winter beard. if i ever shave it off while it's still cold out it takes a few days for my face to get used to the cold air.

oh, and i also look like i'm 10 right after i shave. it takes a good week to get used to the clean look again.

I had a moment similar to you guys a couple months ago. The entire time I have been at Maine Law I have had a goatee or a stache. Finally, I decided to shave it off and I got stares all day. The priceless moment was when the professor had to do a double take.

He's a great guy and was doing his normal method. Which means he's all over the place. The guy next to me was absent that day and he looks right at me in the front row. It looks like Jon's not here today, then does a double take in front the entire class. Laughter ensued. He stopped and said, "ohhh yes he is here, but just looks a bit different!"

But why during Mustache May? Couldn't it have waited just one more measly month?

My uncle Paul did the same thing last year, first thing I noticed about him was the lack of stache.

i did mustache march this year...:tongue_sm

Over the last 31+ years myself I have had a moustache probably 28 of those years. I shaved it off when I worked in the food industry, and whenever I moved to a new area and was looking for a job. About 5 years ago I decided to take one month out of the year and keep the moustache shaved. Usually during the summer so I can get a little bit of a tan all over the face. Not a good thing to do after getting a sun burn... looks too funny.

My kids took a while to adjust to a clean-shaven face, people at work tell me that without the moustache and all those “not brown” hairs makes me look about 10 years younger. And yes, readjusting to shave the upper lip takes a little more effort to obtain a DFS and BBS when you are not use to it.

I parted with mine about a year ago. I think I had it for about 40 years! Full beard for early part of that time and when I shaved my beard I felt I had to leave something there!

Anyway, when I shaved off the 'stache few people even noticed since it was a pretty light color and I kept it very short for a while before taking it all the way off. I did have some very sensitive skin there for a few weeks. Also I learned that those are some of my toughest whiskers!

Had one for 20 years , without one for 10 now.I've done a complete flip flop on how I see myself. The mustache doesn't look right on me anymore when I look at my pictures. Also had a beard for awhile and shaving that off made my chin look unnatural.
Oh yea,people notice.
