Weishi razors are they really any good?

I've see many videos on them everyone has something different to say about them I'm thinking about trying one. Am I just wasting my money?

The Weishi 9306 (and its clones including the Timor TTO) is a solid, heavy and attractive razor that comes in a multitude of finishes and can be purchased at a reasonable price. Unfortunately, I and many others find it to be so mild as to be virtually useless. Regardless of blade and number of passes, I am unable to get an acceptable shave, no less BBS.

If you have a light beard, the Weishi might be acceptable. If you are like me, with a heavy, wiry beard, I would look elsewhere for a razor.

It's a great beginner DE razor for a newbie as it is a mild shaver & you won't draw much or if any blood at all. The 9306 is the best one to get if you do purchase one as it has some nice finishes and seems to be decently built (plus it usually comes with a decent case for travel). I occasionally reach for mine & stick a feather blade in and I get a decent shave although it's not exactly BBS.

I have the chrome Weshi 9306 and it is a decent starter razor by all accounts. There are much cheaper 2003/2004 Weshi's that are lighter and not nearly as well made.

The 9306 is a mild starter razor. It is a solid performer but if I had to say anything negative, I would say that its a shaving tool with "NO" wow factor. Then again, I am biased towards vintage razors. After all, I think Gillette hit a home run when they introduced the TTO (twist-to-open) razors and anything afterwards is a copy of the classic.

Thought I read somewhere that the Weishi is made under a Gillette patent, could be wrong. I had one and it shaved pretty good but PIFed it to get a newbie started.

Thanks for the info guys I saw them on eBay and got that ooh shinny look in my eye :) I may just get one to add to the collection.

I bought one to try and like others here found it so mild as to be almost useless for ME. But in the past few weeks I have purchased about ten in different finishes to PIF to friends who are just starting out or to encourage family to try DE, especially the younger ones.

I think they are quite well made especially given the price. The finish is certainly better than my Fatip and even if it only lasts a few years it is a great safe starter.

When I PIF I always tell the recipients that it is a really mild learner razor so as to encourage to move forward to a "serious" razor as they progress.

I usually include a RiMei as well as the next step up. I may be contributing to a RAD though.

I had one, but it had major rust issues. It got me started though, and was given to a friend of mine and got him started too.

Having red hair, I have really coarse whiskers. FYI, people with red hair are also those people where laser hair removement is very difficult, almost impossible.

I have said it many times, and I will say it again: It is not the razor that is pushed through the whiskers, it is the blade. The aggressiveness of a razor has nothing to do with how coarse/thick your beard is. If someone has coarse beard, he needs sharper blades, not a more aggressive razor. The aggressiveness is all about how close shave you get. Period.

I am able to use the most mild razors. Not everybody has a skin able to handle a BBS daily and a mild razor is great when you just need to look decent.

My first razor was a Weishi and it helped me decide if I would like DE shaving. It's cheap and adequate enough to where you can graduate to other razors later on.

That is not entirely true with respect to the Weishi 9306, IMHO. A razor must have some minimal blade exposure to actually cut your whiskers, particularly a tough beard that lies flat against the skin. The Weishi's blade exposure is so negligible that the blade is practically unable to contact your beard. It does not matter what blade I put in any of my Weishi 9306's (I've had three over the years), Feathers, Astras, Personnas, etc., it still feels like a child's toy.

I generally prefer more mild razors, as I, too, have sensitive skin and nothing to prove. My fair skin in combination with my wiry beard used to make shaving a difficult chore. I generally use a Muhle R89 or Lord L6/1822, notably mild razors, for my daily three pass, close and smooth shave. The Weishi used to cause me additional irritation as I actually needed more passes, with greater pressure, to achieve a shave demonstrably inferior to my other razors, regardless of blade.

We all have our various razor and blade preferences. If the Weishi 9306 provides you with acceptable shave, I envy you. You are able to effectively use an inexpensive, solid and attractive razor that is easily available.

Many, many users' experience with the Weishi mirror my own. However, as the razor can be purchased for under $8, I would encourage anyone to give it a spin if they are sufficiently curious.

Unless you have positive previous experience with that site, I'd be careful. It's setting off my browser protection tool, due to bad ratings from users.

I've ordered from everbuying.com on multiple occasions without incident, including the Weishi 9306 razor at the provided link. The only issue is that shipping takes a few weeks from China. I also always use the Paypal option for additional protection.

Good to know. Sometimes these ratings are a bit bogus---but better safe until there is more info. Thanks.

I think it seems like a relatively well made razor. It feels solid enough and opens and closes without any problems, no problem with blade alignment or anything either.

However as others have said it is a very mild razor. There are much better razors out there but for the price of a Weishi I don't think you can fault it really.

I have never used a Weishi razor, so my earlier comment was about mild razors in general. The mild razors I have tried are a few Gillette Tech, Sodial (which is basically a Tech clone) and Merkur 15C. All of them shaves coarse beard. The Tech (and clones) will not shave well if you let the beard grow more than one day. This is the problem with a narrow gap and safety bar.
