Weber/Ikon Bulldog Handle + R89/DE89 Head?

My R89 is one of my absolute favorites, but I've always felt that it was a bit on the light side, especially since I started shaving with a Feather AS. Lately, I've started to wonder if my Mühle might benefit from a little extra weight as well. I love the look of the Weber and Ikon bulldog handles and was wondering if those of you who have paired the two might provide some feedback. Did you notice a significant improvement in the quality of the shave? I was also wondering how the polished stainless finish of the bulldog matches up with the chrome of the head. The Ikon website says that its handle "will match most any modern chromed DE heads." Do you find this to be the case?

I have the Feather ASD1 handle on my R89. I works great, the the right amount of extra weight. I also have a Tradere OC and that handle fits nicely too. I would imagine that the IKON would be a great match as well. Those R89 heads are really good shavers aren't they?

Here is my R89 with an Ikon bulldog. I definitely prefer it over the stock handle.

I have a Weber Bulldog handle on my EJ DE89. The weight is excellent, the handle is slightly shorter than the original, and it looks great, just like it was original. There are a couple good threads here comparing the two Bulldog handles, but in general, the Weber is a gram heavier, somewhat less finished and polished (giving it a slightly rougher feel), and about $20 cheaper. I like mine just fine, and it looks like what it is: a well-machined and turned out piece of high grade metal. My razor is shiny and new, and the handle is a good match. Would the Ikon look better? Don't know, but the $20 I saved will buy a lot of blades.

+1 I changed out my stoc handle on my EJ DE89 and didn't look back. I feel the added weight and textured handle provide me with more control and my shaving experience has improved. I opted to Weber due to all the positive feedback and it was more a economical choice than the IKON.

the weber is a top piece of kit, the weber classic was bargain, i only wish when they were out i got 2 or 3 of them.

I have a Weber bulldog and pair it with my Muhle R89 head amongst others. I think it's a great combo and adds a really nice heft. In terms of looks, as others have said, they look like they were meant to be together.

Wow, I wasn't expecting so many responses! Thanks for all the good input, fellas! It sounds like everyone agrees it's a winning combination (and judging by Cochese's picture, an attractive one at that). Tough call on whether to go with Weber or Ikon, but they both sound like superior pieces of workmanship. I was thinking of snagging an ARC when they're back in stock and use the handle with both heads. Does anyone know whether the ARC heads are usually available with the bulldog handle, or do you have to purchase it separately?

I'm very new to the game and don't have a lot of experience with different razors but the combo you are asking about is my daily driver right now. I love the look, love the handle, love the weight. It makes me smile every morning and I wish I could use it more then once a day.

Next up for me is a Feather AS but I need to work on technique and find the right blade for me first.

At the 3" the Bulldog handle is to short for me, plus it doesn't compliment the smooth chrome look of an 89 head.

YMMV of course as several like them.

I use an R89 on a BRW Bull Mastiff handle all the time, works great, looks great (if you are lucky enough to find one)
