Wash the face with shavingsoap?

Hi!

This might be a stuped question, but can I use a shaving soap to wash my face, or do I have to use a special soap for that only? Is/isn't there something in the shavingsoap that makes it inappropriate for face washing? Usually I wash my face before shaving, and I found it easier to use the same soap to wash the face as for shaving.

The soap I'm using today is an EJ Aloe Vera and a Palmolive Shaving Stick.

Best Regards
Axel

There are no stupid questions! :001_smile

If you read through Kyle's prep procedure, you'll see that he's basically washing his face with the shaving soap (or cream) prior to shaving.

I lather up a brush with Mama Bear's Lime EO soap to wash my face because it's reasonably priced. Then I use whatever other soap I feel like for the day. Sometimes I shave with the Mama Bear's Lime.

Thanks for this answers!

Especially while traveling, it's good if you can use one soap for both wash and shave your face, so this was the answers I was looking for!

How else do you use up all that Williams you bought for the "Month of williams"??

I have used shaving soap to wash my face in the shower. No negative results and the scent is quite nice, a good break from Lever 2000.

I wash my face with the excess lather in my brush after every shave. I also keep a puck of MWF in the shower just for washing...I really like how it leaves my skin.

I usually use Cetaphil, but there have been instances when I'm travelling, have shave soap, but no Cetaphil. I usually wash my face with the leftover lather after I shave in that instance.

Actually, if I get a shave soap that I'm not crazy about the shave from it, I'll turn it into a face/hand washing bar.

(Neal's Yard Remedies comes to mind here, as does Dr. Lightfoot's Pine - not so great for shaving, fine for washing your face.)

Another thing - having a spare brush around, like a tweezerman, or a VDH boar bristle, is nice to use. The whole face appreciates a good lathering with an exfoliating brush, and the leftover lather can be brushed on with the spare to clean the nose, the forehead, the temples, etc.

That way, your shaving brush isn't being used as a scrubber, if you're worried about it.
You scrub the whole face for a week with a moisturizing shaving lather, and the difference is amazing.

I use a regular bar of soap to wash my unshaven beard in the shower. That's if I do not have a shaving soap I do not like in the shower. However, if you want to use your main shaving soap, that's all right.

With a puck of Olivia's Seife (Churchill scent) I wash my face every evening or so. Smells great and feels great thereafter, too.

I've got a puck of Williams in the shower I use. I rub it into my beard and let it sit for a few minutes before rinsing it off too. Works great to help soften up the whiskers before a shave.

Technically it's a soap and your getting lather so why wouldn't you be able to wash your face with it. When you shave your washing your face wherever the lather is placed on your face. Especially when you work the lather into your face using your brush. You doing a better job at washing than you would without the brush.

Exfoliating is good for your skin so I really like the idea that Spatterdash had.

Your using soap to lather for shaving regardless if it comes in the form of a bar, puck, stick, cream or liquid. And soap by nature cleans. So really if you think about it, using another product to "wash" your face would be a waste since your already doing it with the lather. So why not put the rest of that lather to good use and wash your face with it.

I still have a couple pucks of glycerin soap around from my early attempts at adding my own scent. They make great hand/face washing soap.

I just tried it with some Williams ... rubbed a wet finger over the puck and then worked it back and forth in my palm.

I like the way it smells, but I don't know if my face really feels as clean as if I'd used one of my regular soaps like Cetaphil or Neutrogena.

I don't think this is a fair test, though ... I think any shaving soap would work best for washing if you work it up into a lather with either a brush or a wash cloth.

I'm going to keep experimenting. I'm particularly anxious to see if it will work with Tabac shaving soap. I dearly love my Tabac Luxury Bath Soap, but I can't see spending another $16.99 ($10.99 soap + $6 shipping) and waiting for it to be shipped all the way from Singapore.
