What's new

Was in Red Wing, MN recently

Hello all,

on business recently, I found myself in Red Wing, MN. I took a tour of the shoe factory and tannery. The leather used in all Red Wing shoes and boots is processed in Red Wing, MN as well. All American shoes. If you are ever near this quaint small river town, you must stop and visit.

On a sour note, my favorite model (which I cannot remember) of boot has been discontinued. Luckily I found a pair in my size in the closeout section located in the basement of store in Red Wing. This makes the third pair of these that I have owned. The last pair I bought 7 years ago in WY for $280 and before that the boots lasted 5 years. I am pretty sure that the first pair was around $190. I got this new pair for $75 :scared::thumbup1:. Very happy but will only have 5-7 years to find a new favorite model.

thought I'd share.

Sounds like an awesome time! So they sell all of their models at the factory? Any interesting discounts outside of the close outs? I might be near by this coming November...

Congrats! $75 really is a steal. I recently picked up a pair of Iron Rangers and I couldn't be happier with them. Out of curiosity, what about your last pair wore out? I've seen folks still wearing Red Wings from 50 years ago. Cheers!

Thanks for the geography lesson, all along I had been thinking that Red Wing was an adopted Indian name or similar and not an actual place. Do they perform full vertical manufacturing functions there? Where they process leather hides as well as manufacture the shoes? Still looks to be a small town with roughly 16000 residents according to wikipedia.
