WARNING: Sebum Lather Photos Ahead!

Gents,

If anyone has Sebum Soaps lather photos, please share them!

I used Sebum Tonka today, which is a highly effective shave soap. In fact, the best I have used! Here are some photos from today’s shave.

Matt O! I just recently purchased the Sebum Gold set of serum and soap. The serum, needless to say, is fantastic, no question. I have used the soap a couple of times, but can’t seem to dial it in. Do you mind sharing how you lather yours up? Do you scoop some out of the jar and bowl lather that way? Or, do you load the brush and bowl lather? How much water do you add? I feel like it is quite a thirsty soap. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Hello! Sure...here is what I do to dial it in...very slowly and in a controlled manner using a syringe to add distilled water. Please note a syringe and distilled water aren’t necessary, but I have found it to work really well for me.

I soak a badger brush in a tea cup of distilled water, and I let it sit while I am in the shower.

In addition, I smear some of the soap in the bottom of my lather bowl, and I randomly put 10 drops on it with my syringe. I also let that sit on top of the soap while I take a shower.

Once I am done with the shower I removed the brush from the distilled water, and shake out all excess water. I proceeded to lather until the soap pastey.

I then add exactly 1ml of distilled water with the syringe, and go back to work until the soap is again pastey in consistency.

I then added exactly 1ml of distilled water, and go back to work until the soap in the bowl is pastey.

Here is what the brush looks like at this step...pastey.

Now we are starting to get somewhere! I next add 1ml of distilled water, and go back to work until the soap pastey and building up on the walls.

Next I add exactly 1ml of distilled water, and go back to work. Once some nice lather is building up on the walls, I scrape my brush over it to get her it up, pump the brush on it a few times, and start thinking about my first brush squeeze.

I next add 1ml of distilled water, and I go back to work swirling the brush around, pumping it up and down on the lather, and I usually figure now that it is ready for a brush squeeze to see where I am at in the process. Here is what was squeezed out of the brush during this effort.

Pretty awesome, but not yet perfect. I again add exactly 1ml of distilled water, and go back to work swirling the brush around the bowl, whipping the lather, and pumping the brush. I do this for a bit, and here are the final brush squeeze pictures.

I hope that helps. I usually do to brush squeezes, add distilled water 1ml at at time, use a total of 7-10ml, and do two brush squeezes. The initial amount of soap is usually about a silver dollar size when smeared into the bottom of the bowl.

I hope that helps.

You are welcome. BTW...not a thirsty lather. 7ml is about average I use.

I will be excited to see your results!

have a good one!

Hi Gabe, and thanks!

The Carbon razor is slightly more aggressive than the EFBTs, but nearly as smooth. They shave differently. I really like the EFBTs and the Carbon razors. They are both excellent tools/shavers!

As far as modern razors go, I put the Carbon Razor above the now defunct Raw Shaving razors. In my opinion it shaves better, and isn’t quite as clunky under the nose.

I hope that all is well, and that you and your family are staying healthy!

Thanks Matt. Wishing you and your family good health as well.

Other than the price, what is controversial about their soaps?

Have you tried their Post Shave Serum?

Sir,

I was on a different forum, and some folks didn’t care for me posting lather pics a few times a week, or using a syringe to add distilled water of all things! Folks also don’t like that the soap can be finicky unless very slowly adding water in small increments. Comments got deleted by moderators...the whole thing was silly.

Then a couple other guys started posting sebum lather pictures, and the thread was locked by the moderators.

I was then accused of shilling (in a fairly polite way) despite having zero commercial interest in the Sebum Company, the whole thing was pretty sad and ridiculous.

Oh well.

Regarding the Sebum Serums, they are in my opinion, at the top of the pyramid for post-shave products. I used to think the soap was slightly above average, and the serum was where the line shined...not so...they are both top tier. The serums seem pricey but using 5-10 drops, a bottle will last over 200+ uses. It’s sort of like an MDC situation...up front cost, but the product is amazing and lasts for a very very long time!

The Blue Serum/Soap smells of green fougere, slightly herbaceous, and with wild blueberry in the background. It is the lightest of the serums, and provides me with the best post-shave feel.

The Tonka Serum/Soap smells of tonka and with a light almond/cinnamon note in the background. If you have smelled the cereal Cinnamon Toast Crunch, it smells similar to that.

The Gold smells of freshly cut lumber to my nose, and is the heaviest of the serums.

The Red smells exactly like sangria...dead ringer!

The Lime is exactly a nice EO of lime. It is very very similar to the Castle Forbes Lime. Since I love lime fragrances, I think the Lime soap/serum represent the best value in the line up.

I also have tried the purple...mint/lavender. I did not care for the purple at all, and sold it.

I haven’t tried any of the others.
