Warm Up Your Razor?

Many of us go to lengths to make sure the lather is warm, including spending a nice amount on a scuttle.

How many warm their razor? For me, I hate the feeling of a "cold blade" against my skin after lathering with warm soap.

While I've never read about it here, surely I'm not the only one who warms their razor in the same sink full of hot water where your brush is soaking while you're in the shower.

I usually warm up the razor before I shave by letting it sit in the same mug of hot water as the boar hair brush. Nice warm razor with the blade to go with the lather.

Cheers

With me its like running my toothbrush under cold water. I use boiling water in my mug and that gets the razor too hot (learned this the first time I tried it) so I just warm it under the tap.

I rinse my razor continually during the shave with a stream of warm water, and always hold it in the water before starting.

When I got my Futur last December, picked up the razor 10 minutes after use - it was still warm - the mass of metal in the handle acted like a heat sink!:biggrin1:

I run hot water on the blade for minute or so before starting the shave. I also rinse with warm water keeping the blade nice and warm.

I just run it under the tap for a few seconds before starting, but I make sure the water isn't too hot. Our hot water is really unpredictable and can be scalding at times. There have been a few times when it was way too hot, which makes the blade quite hot. If this happens and I'm not aware of it, then it is really painful. But I do run it under the tap even before the very first pass. I never thought of it specifically as 'warming up' the razor, but I suppose this is precisely what it is doing. I'd always done it more to get the razor wet, which makes it slide better. But it does warm it up as well.

Never bothered with it personally. I kinda like the feeling of cool to the touch steel. Besides my razor tends to warm up quite nicely during the shave when I rinse, too hot sometimes.

I'm about to dive into the warm lather world though. Went out and picked up one of those candle warmers, the ones that were shorting and burning down houses lol, to put my lather bowl on top of.

+1

I'm a noob, but I've been doing this exact same thing. It seems to be working pretty well for me so far.

Yep, I just run it under the hot tap water before I get started. I've never given it any thought, its just something I've always done.

I'll agree with the above post about getting the razor too hot with boiling water. That wouldn't be very nice at all. :wink2:

Like many others I run hot tap water over my razor when I shave before I start and to rinse after each "swipe".

haha I thought I was weird for doing this, but I do the same thing!
I run the razor under hot water before doing my first pass, it's very unenjoyable for me to shave with a very cold blade.

I just let it sink in the basin of water for like 30 mins while I am lathering.
Just so it feels nicer on my face, i doubt it changes the cutting properties of the blade

I let hot tapwater flow over the razor while I build a lather in the scuttle. Warm razor and warm lather are a real treat. Can't wait to do it again tonight.
