Warm lather

I have been on a mission to find the best way to make warm lather as well as to make it last for three passes. I started with a wood bowl and a candle warmer results were not good. The lather was to dry due to the bowl getting too hot. I used other bowls with similar results, until I came across a bowl made from soap stone. The soap stone bowl was able to hold the heat for a long time without drying the lather. In the picture below it is the bowl on the right of my shave den picture. I purchased the bowl at Walmart in the scented oil and candle section section for about $4.00 it make great lather as well.

So...do you still use the candle to heat the soap stone?

Have you considered purchasing a scuttle? I've found that a scuttle is a nice way to heat lather too...but I'm intrigued about how you actually go about heating up your lather once whipped?

How long does it take?

I place the soap stone bowl on the candle warmer before going into the shower (about 15 minutes) then I take the bowl off the warmer, it will hold the heat for you three passes. I have never used a scuttle.

Please excuse my ignorance, but what is a candle warmer? Could it be used to heat a scuttle also?:confused:

A scuttle doesn't need heated. You put hot water into the basin of a scuttle, and it keeps the bowl part (where your lather is) warm.

A candle warmer is used to warm some sort of scented candle in a bowl using a *lamp* under the frangrance bowl.

Sorry, original post said candle. After thinking about it, the one my mom has uses a lamp.

Actually, in this case, a candle warmer is an electric device that looks like a mug warmer but is used to heat a scented candle to the point that it melts and gives out its scent without lighting it.

I go about it differently: I have a water filled Pyrex teacup into which I set a Corelleware teacup. The Corelleware teacup's handle is an open loop

so it doesn't interfere with the teacup fitting into the other one. The nested teacups sit on my candle warmer and serve as a warmed brush holder (I face lather, so I don't need a lather bowl). I preheat the assembly in my hot sink water while I shower then use the candle warmer simply to keep them warm while I shave. Very compact, simple and cheap. I bought the candle warmer from here.
