What's new

Wanna buy a new Brush lets get some opinions

Alright heres the scoop... i want to buy a new brush but cant figure out what to put i dont really wanna spend more than 40$ the less the better lol...but i want a good quality brush. ive been looking at edwin jagger and omega... both around 30 plus shipping. now is there any other brush i should be looking at?????

I assume you're looking at badger brushes? I would honestly suggest getting a decent boar. This one is GREAT, and is half of what you will probably spend on an starter badger brush. Use the other $15 you saved on a nice cream or something.

I would get a brush that you can use every day, and travel with it; one that is good with both soaps and creams. Having used boar brushes exclusively for 30+ years, then discovered the badger brush is, something that if I had known before what I was missing, the boars would have only lasted a few short years or just for travel.

With that said. albeit a very small brush, the Simpson Wee Scot is a best badger brush for under $40 and can hold enough lather for 2-3 passes.

I have the EJ Best Badger and use it frequently. It is a great brush. Also, check out the 'house brand' brushes at Fendrihan - I have a Silvertip and it is great. I think he also carries very reasonably priced pure badger as well which will be more in your price range.

I ordered a silver tip badger brush from China off of e-bay.

For 30.00 total with shipping etc, I got what I can only find for 120 plus everywhere else.

All the badger hair comes from China anyway, so any english, or American company is getting their stuff from there anyway.

I'm sure there will be many that question the quality of a hand made brush from China, but it is no different.

100% silver tip 30 bucks. Just had to wait a month to get it, but if you go by american/european prices, it has to be the best quality for the buck.

I'm so glad I went this route. :thumbup1:

Read the threads on the Chinese brushes...very hit or miss there, mostly miss. Silvertip isn't some internationally standardized grade...anyone can call a brush silvertip if they want and make it out of whatever they want, including non-badger hair.

And you don't need to spend $120 to get a silvertip brush if you know where to look. There are silvertips made by reputable brush makers like Vulfix and Omega that go for around $50. Rooney and Shavemac brushes in silvertip can also be had for less than $120.

You can't go wrong with the Edwin Jagger Pure or Best badger brush. I have one of each of their brushes (pure, best, super, and silver-tip). My favorite is the super which i bought on amazon $60 with the drip stand. I would mostly recommend the Best because its firm yet semi soft tips and breaks in EXTREMELY well after repeated use. Most who try it love it. You can get one for $40 with the stand.

The pricing on those is wierd as it keeps fluctuating, mine was only $16 (see here for details).

For the OP, I'm recommending my recent purchase which was a Omega 31064 from West Coast Shaving at $22 plus shipping. Great deal IMO.

Checkout the link in my siggy for more info on boar brushes. :thumbup1:

Kent brushes + Rooney brushes from The executive Shaving Company - reasonable shipping costs and a good deal too, huge range from £175 Thiers issard to £30 for their own branded stuff. If you've not tried a Roonet brish you're a shaving virgin!:001_smile
