Wal-mart Wilkies gone?

I stopped in my local Wal-mart today and all the Wilkinson Sword products seemed to be being replaced by Gillette. I couldn't find an employee so I was unable to ask if they have discontinued the WS items.

Does anyone know if the Wilkinson Sword DE Blades have in fact been discontinued by Wal Mart?

Not a huge deal as I primarily use Astras, but I tried to buy a couple packs of the Wilkies each month for giving away and for the Wife's Krona.

I saw that my local WalMart quit carrying Wilkinson's TracII/Atra combo a few weeks ago.
Today I saw they quit crrying the D.E. blades too.

It stinks.

Didn't we have a huge discussion not too long ago that they were gone, then they came back?

Could it merely be stock fluctuations?

The Walmart Wilkinson is the only blade I use. I am running low so I went to pick some up, and low and behold they dont have them! Abruptly, I called my wife who happens to be employed by Walmart, and had her check into it. Sure enough, the Walmart Wilkinson is no more. They are in the system as a deleted item! So stock up if they havnt removed them yet, because thats it.

So of course im fairly down about this, as this has become my regular use blade. Can anyone recommend a blade that is fairly similar? I have a fairly light beard, mostly on my neck, with sensitive skin, and some acne thrown in for good measure. Also, my go to razor is an NDC Gillete Tech. My face/neck likes the mild combination of the tech and the Wilkie. Someone help!

I recently started using Walmart wilkies again and really like them. Dorco 300 platinum are the closest I have found and they are dirt cheap. I also use Red IPS, BICs and Astra's with no issues. I'm going to stock up at all my local Walmarts.

I could never get the Walmart Wilkie DE blades to work for me.They gave me a rough shave.I ended up ordering a 100 pack of Astras for $12.Much better shave and 100 lasts me forever.(I bought them last summer and still have plenty left)

No better confirmation than this. Sigh... I'm going to have to have razors shipped when I travel if they aren't allowed in hand bags; I never see DE blades at any US pharmacies, either. I never check bags, BTW :crying:

Pretty demoralizing. I was about to set up some trials between the German Wilkies and the Shanghai (P&G) ones.

I do find DE blades in CVS these days, made in USA - so most likely Personna, and blades in Walgreens made in S. Korea. Neither are inexpensive.

Dollar General seems to have S. Korean blades at $1 per 5-pack, about 17% more than the Wilkies.

I checked 3 Walmarts that I have bought blades at, and all three had empty pegs.

Well, here's the scoop on replacements Dollar General made in S. Korea are OK. Tried one this morning in a Gillette Slim. Don't know if they coated or not; they have precious little info on the pack or the blade.

Family Dollar's house brand is also $1 per 5-pack, and the blades say Made in USA on the blade. The package says the manufacturing is "electronically controlled" whatever that might imply, but I haven't tried to see if they're coated or not. They all talk about electronic control, like it's special in today's world. Heck, that isn't electronically controlled these days.

All the ones I have mentioned, the Walgreen's Korean, the Dollar General Korean. the CVS MI-USA, and the Family Dollar MI-USA come in a pretty nice little blade locking dispenser with a used blade coffin on the back, much like the old Gillette blades.

There is this thread from a while back that sheds some light, but my feeling is that this stuff changes so fast there's slim chance it's still right.

I can't find the Dollar General or the Family Dollar offering on-line.

I suspect the 20 cent blade is less blade than the 60 cent blade. But are they better than the Shanghai made 13 cent Wilkensons on eBay?

You are right. Went o my Walmart tonight. The little rack of wilkinson blades is gone. They are just the latest victim in my Walmart. The Williams soap and van der Hagen kits disappeared a while back.

As if there wasn't little enough reason to go to walmart as it is.

In this thread there is some discussion about how the brand is split marketed. http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php/357073-Indian-Wilkies-from-China

I don't really know all the nuances. Maybe the trademark holder is changing/renegotiation the distribution model. Who knows. They aren't asking my input.

Right no there are no DE offering at the three Walmarts I checked.

In some thread I also read that the apparently excellent Brazilian made Wilkies are discontinued.

I just received some India made/India market and some China made/India market Wilkies from two eBay sellers. I was planning to have a trial between them and the Wally World German ones.

Interesting, or maybe not:

On the package of the WM WS blades I just got, there is a web address for the company. It is www.wilkinsonswordUSA.com I type that into my navigation bar and get an error. When I go to http://www.wilkinson-sword.com/ there is a pull-down menu to select a country. USA is not one of the choices. I clicked the UK and while it was in English, there was no information regarding anything outside the UK.

So, it seems that WS is not marketing it's products in the US. Schick is, and is basically the same company. I wonder if we will see the German made Schick blades as a replacement in the US? The Schick website makes no mention that I can find of DE blades at all.
