W.M. Neumann "Absolute Zero" Shave Cream

Really excited to give the new W.M. Neumann's "Absolute Zero" shave cream as well as the corresponding after shave a try! Especially with the warmer months around the corner. I've got some on the way and if the tracking is accurate [Not accurate] it should be here tomorrow! April 1st!

Key Ingredients:

  • Stearic Acid (Tallow Source), Myristic Acid (Coconut Source), Shea Butter, and Premium Oils--Create a creamy, dense, slippery cushion of lather
  • Oat Straw, Marshmallow Root, and Chickweed--Soothes and calms irritated skin
  • Kosher Vegetable Glycerin--Naturally hydrates and softens the skin
  • Allantoin--Natural Conditioner
  • Slippery Elm Bark--Creates a Natural Slip
  • Green Tea and Blue-Green Algae, Vitamin A, Vitamin C--Powerful natural antioxidants, encourage the healing process
  • Nettle, and Milk Thistle--Well known for their healing qualities

The scent as described on their website is:

An initial cooling blast of Menthol gives way to a crisp and clean blend of Lemon Verbena, Neroli, Bergamot, American Lotus, Geranium, Nutmeg, Saffron, Sage, Amber, and Musk. It is a very uplifting, fresh, clean scent, that is sure to cool you off.

There's nothing about that description that I don't like! W.M. Neumanns scents tend to be pretty complex but that's something I like about them.

This is relatively new stuff but has anyone else out there tried it yet?

I bought my Da Vinci Uomo from W.M. Neumann and Bill hand wrote a thank you on the packing slip. Now in all the time I've been buying stuff online no one has ever done that, so it was a nice touch.

I'm a big fan of CO Bigelow, so I will defiantly give this a go.

After my house flooded Bill sent me a nice box of shaving goods including a tub of soap and an AS in signature...what a great scent! And the soap is top notch. Bill sent it ax a gift and earned a customer for life.

I'm pumped for the menthol release. I think I'm gonna wait until they have the ASB ready before I order.

Let us know how the pump cream works with a brush. I was thinking about their "Old Fashioned Soda" cream.
The Old Fashioned Soda scent is pretty much a dead ringer for root beer/sarsparilla based on the scent samples they sent me. I thought that would be cool for a novelty cream.

What's better, their cream or soap?

Their soaps have been out for a while. The creams have only been out for a few weeks and the only scents they have so far in the creams is the Absolute Zero and Old Fashioned Soda.

The soaps are a little finicky with water but once you get it right they're great! There's not a scent I'm not a fan of.

I just got the Absolute Zero cream in today so I'm hoping to get a shave in tonight.

Here's my review:

Scent:

The scent is pretty close to Proraso "blue" except with a light menthol and sort of a floral musk scent. W.M. Neumann is known for having complex scents and this one is no different. Overall it kind of reminds me of a cologne scent but I can't quite put my finger on which one. Whatever it is I'm a big fan of it. Great masculine smell.

Lather:

The cream is in a pump bottle and says it can be used with just your hands or with a brush. I used about a walnut sized pump in the mug then put a little pump on the top of my brush and did a face/bowl lather combo. The lather I created with the brush wasn't your typical billowy lather that is usually normal with most creams/soaps. It was sort of a slick creamy lather that to my surprise lasted the 3 passes with touch ups. Using painting motions seemed to work best with a brush. Next time I may use it as a brushless cream just to see how it compares. It wasn't the normal lather I'm use to but it provided a slick irritation free shave and it smells great! so no complaints. Couldn't be happier with it.

Here's a couple lather pics: (updated)

Menthol:
The cooling effect from this cream isn't as strong right off the bat as say QCS "Vostok" or MB "Awakenings" but it had a gradual cooling effect throughout the shave and by my 3rd pass when I lathered up it definitely had that feeling of rubbing a ice cube on my face. Very refreshing! I liked the gradual cooling effect it had and it's definitely a winner in my "Mentholated Soap & Creams" book.

Aftershave:
For those of you that like the up front menthol cooling this aftershave is for you! unlike the gradual cooling build up of the cream this aftershave is a blast of coolness and feels really great on the skin. If you want an extra treat splash on a little extra a few min after the first application, it definitely lives up to the "Absolute Zero" name. The scent is also great and the cooling effect definitely lasted for about 15min or so and the scent lasted about the time as your typical aftershave about 45min or so.

Overall I'm definitely happy with the performance of both the shave cream and the aftershave. Going to be great using them in the warmer months ahead!

I believe W.M. Neumann's aftershaves are the best aftershaves on the planet, no foolin'.

I am just not a fan of melt and pours, so no can do with their soaps....and I have to say, that lather pic for the cream does not exactly get me reachin' for my wallet.

Their regular bath soaps are really nice too though...may have to try their shampoo.

All in all, this is a fantastic new vendor with great service that I welcome with open arms for making my favorite aftershaves out of my collection of 50 or so (1911, Heartwood, bay rum/mint/lime, and signature are all to die for!). We're easily talking Floid Blue quality here.

Definitely great service, Bill is great to deal with. I've tried samples of the other aftershaves which seemed nice but it's nothing compared to actually having a full bottle and if the rest of them is as quality as the Absolute Zero I'm definitely making another order soon.

Yeah, the lather was a bit strange I added water a little at a time to try to slowly build it (it actually looked better on when I face lathered it) but it may just take a little tweaking to get the bowl lathering right. It still provided a great shave though!

*updated above post (#14) with new lather pics. I never used a cream like this before and a little more product was needed.

Great just when I thought I was done with new stuff, menthol cream, and it's in a pump! This is exciting as my last tube of Proraso green lost a fight with my 70lb boxer. I have an excuse to try a new menthol cream and I don't think my dog will bother any more shaving cream for a long time.
