What's new

vintage strop given to me

owned by my great grandfather, a barber wayyy back when.
It is a Blasdell, or Blasdell...cant quite make out the engraving on the "can"
Still retracts, heavy wear on the leather. Patent date is nov 28 18..???
Cant quite make it out.

Looking for any info anyone may have on this type or brand of strop.

needless to say, super cool to hold it, and image way back when.

if i had 3 hands i might be able to hold it down and take a pic. seriously though its just dark very worn and brittle, afraid to pull on it much.

Anyone seen or heard of this type or brand of strop? It belonged to my great grandfather, a barber... thats about all thats known of it. Still looking for his straight razor, its packed away somewhere.

I looked up Blasdell, Bladsell...... nothing came up

Some time ago there was another fellow with a very similar strop.
Check with Ambrose, IIRC, he was able to replace the leather for the guy.

Wow, I just posted a thread of a similiar strop. Sorry, I quess I should have went through the strop forum. I'm pretty lazy and don't look in the straight razor forum very much.

The leather is crusty cracked, beat up 100yr old.... so im guessing replacing it would be the way to go.

But being new to straight shaving I thing I may just put gramps strop up on mantle as a conversation piece and learn stropping a a beginners strop from larry. Probably the best move eh gents?
