vintage solingen found

I just got this off ebay recently. Just wondered if anyone had heard of Ewald Plumacher. And am I right in assuming that the "EXTRA" on the box means extra hollow ground? I'd love to make the switch from DEs to straights, there are plenty of blades to be had relatively cheaply. But getting hold of all the other gear at a justifiable price. seems a little more challenging

Heck - it looks like a nice razor. Almost no hone wear from what I can see. Why not send it out to have a nice edge put on it and go from there?

Thanks, I might just try that. It was described as having tortoise shell scales. Is it easy to tell if they are genuine, or just a tortoise shell design?

You already have half what you need.

Honing is the next step and a strop.

You really don't want to get into Str8 shaving. There's the sharpening, stropping, and learning curve. Why not just send me that razor while you're thinking about it!!!

holy hell thats a beauty... I agree, get a nice edge put on it, use it, and be careful of the fine art on the blade when sharpening the blade.

I suppose the only real issue is getting a decent stone. Are their good ones around for under £50? Anyone able to answer my query regarding the tortoise shell scales?

I would hold a bit for the stone at the moment... Get a honemeister to sharpen it for you. It will give you an indication of how sharp it should be...

Here's the list: http://wiki.badgerandblade.com/index.php/Honemeister

No idea for the scales... They look nice and unbroken so I wouldn't worry much.
