Vintage(?) Simpsons's KH2 best brush?

(Mods, if posting this twice in two different forums is out of line, feel free to delete it...I just realized it was better suited here after I posted the other)

I just won this brush on the Bay....it says KH2 best badger - I assume that's the Simpson's Keyhole 2 - and I believe it's vintage ----- anybody know the significance of this brush? Anybody know how old it is based on how it looks? any info at all?

Sorry I don't know anything about its history etc.

But that is one fine looking brush. Is the hair suitable for use or will you be restoring it?

Why do modern brushes seem to just lack this sort of old classic style?

Ya know...I bid on it at first with the intention of restoring it.....that was a very low bid - then I realized just what it was...and now I don't know. I have the knots for it, but I don't know...it's a Simpson's....I may leave it alone.

When I get it, I will judge it and decide - the listing said that the hair was in great shape almost as if never used - but who knows if that's the truth. Time will tell.

Nice brush - I was watching it... luckily I was out of the house when the auction ended. I'm surprised it went so low - I think you have a deal there - even if it's a restoration.

Nice catch.

sorry I can't help on dating it.

Definitely a Keyhole (I won a Simpson KH4 a couple weeks ago - a project, and not as fine a deal as yours.)

Yeah...about 4 days ago someone bid 23 cents less than my highest bid (I was highest bid throughout) and then nobody bid on it again. I was fully expecting my bid to be doubled...glad it wasn't.

damn...I remember seeing that one and thinking that I gotta go after it. Just forgot.
Nice score though! I'd reknot if I were you unless this hair is an exceptionally nice old knot. That old hair has always sucked IMO on all of my vintage brushes

I bought two of these some 18 years ago. One was for my late father and one for me. I wore mine out and ,idiotically, binned it. After my father passed away his brush was returned to me and I had it restored. This was done by a member on another (UK) forum and I'm delighted with it.

The KH series brushes are still available, retailing at about £50 to £70 in the UK.

It definitely looks like a Simpson Keyhole model brush. Vulfix still makes the Keyhole size 1 if I am not mistaken. Cool find, beautiful butterscotch. It would probably benefit from a re-knot. Let us know what you do.
